O n August 28, 2013 citizens
from across this coun
try will converge upon
our nation’s capital to commem
orate and celebrate the historic
March On Washington which oc
curred 50 years ago on August 28,
1963. Visit 50thanniversarymar-
chonwashington.com This site
provides information and updates
on the numerous commemorative
marches that are being planned
throughout this country. In addi
tion, this site provides citizens an
opportunity to leave their remem
brances and pictures of the march
that changed the world.
The details of a process
and a plan that began nearly a year
ago are becoming clearer. The
Metropolitan Police Depart
ment of Washington D.C permit
that authorizes citizens, on August
28, 2013, to actually March on
Washington was released today.
The permit allows citi
zens, from across this country, to
march onto two institutions of
government that are critical to
making Dr. King’s dream a reali
ty — the Department of Labor and
the Department of Justice. This
is the march that we heard the “I
Have A Dream” speech from Dr.
King.
For some details, here’s
what we can tell you so far. On
August 28, 2013:
• At 8:00 A.M. citizens will be
gin assembling at 600 New Jer
sey Avenue.
We will be lead in this histor
ic march by citizens who were
at the original 1963 March on
Washington and by the Civil
Rights Museum on Wheels.
• This commemorative
march will begin promptly
at 9:30 A.M. as this is also
a ’’March for Jobs and Justice”
our first rally point will take
place at the United States De
partment of Labor which is
located at 200 Constitution
Avenue.
• After 15 minutes at the De
partment of Labor our “March
for Jobs and Justice” will then
take us to the United States
Department of Justice which
is located at 950 Pennsylvania
Avenue
• After a 15 minute rally at the
Department of Justice, march
ers will then proceed south
west making their way to the
National Mall to join in the
additional events planned in
commemoration of the 50th
Anniversary of the March on
Washington.
• The Civil Rights Museum on
Wheels (pending approval
from the National Parks Ser
vice) will be stationed some
where near the National Mall
as an interactive exhibit.
While there still are more import
ant and exciting details to come, we
hope this level of detail will allow
you to make the necessary plans to
participate in this important march
and event.
