Savannah Tech Soars With New Aviation Training Center

of STC’s Aviation Training
Center today.
“The new Aviation
Training Center at Savannah
Technical College will pro
vide Georgia’s aviation in
dustry with the highly-skilled
workforce that they need in
key areas like aircraft assem
bly and maintenance,” said
Jackson. “President Kathy
Love and her faculty and staff
have worked closely with
corporate leaders like Gulf-
stream to develop a model
facility that will provide out
standing training for our stu
dents and place them in great
careers in an industry that’s
essential for Georgia’s future
growth and economic devel
opment.”
The nearly
30,000-square-foot facility
at STC’s Crossroads Campus
has a 5,000-square-foot han
gar, four labs designed and
equipped for hands-on in
struction and spacious class
rooms. It was designed by
James W. Buckley and Asso
ciates, Inc. and built by Pope
Construction.
“This state-of-the-
art facility is a tangible re
minder of Savannah Tech
nical College’s commitment
to provide an assortment of
programs tailored to meet the
workforce needs of our re
gion’s businesses and indus
tries,” said President Love.
“With the opening of this
facility, Savannah Technical
College is answering the call
of the aerospace industry for
a workforce with specialized
skills. Students that begin
their training here will be on
a pathway to great jobs and
successful careers.”
Savannah Tech’s
Aviation Division currently
offers several programs of
study that prepare students
for careers in the aviation
industry. These programs

cently approved to offer the
Aircraft Upholstery and Trim
Technical Certificate of Cred
it. The College is currently
accepting student applica
tions for this program sched
uled to begin spring semester
of 2014.
The College is cur
rently seeking FAA approval
to offer programs that will
provide graduates with the
skills and knowledge needed
to become certified as air
frame and powerplant me
chanics. The new Aviation
Training Center will help
STC meet FAA Part 147 re
quirements, which govern
aviation mechanic schools.

aware of The Network which
is a collective collaborative
to better serve the needs of
youth and families in our
communities.
The Network is
the brainchild of Richmond
Fergerson who thought it
productive to bring together
a network of professionals
already serving and operat
ing in the community in var
ious needed capacities; thus,
tapping into their expertise,
existing resources and inno
vative fruitful ideas to help
face the challenges of Sa
vannah’s youth/families. Via

will have access to pro-ac
tive life skills training, career
training, mentoring, social

Cloverdale Community Center

was held last Wednesday,
August 14, 2013. 1909 Cyn
thia Street is the location for
the center (behind Butler El
ementary School).
This communi
ty center will include a
multi-purpose room that will
seat 120 people in a banquet
setting with a serving kitch
en and pantry. The building
will also include a computer
room, an exercise room, re
strooms, as well as the utility
spaces needed to support and
run the facility. A new access
road and parking lot will be
constructed that will separate
the flow of people and vehi
cles from the school traffic.
The design team, led by
Architect Anne K. Smith of
Lominack Kolman Smith
Architects, is comprised of
100% local Savannah small
businesses working within
Chatham County. This proj
ect is funded by the Special
Propose Local Option Sales
Tax (SPLOST).

Savannah’s Fashion Night Out
For the past two
years the City of Savannah
and local Savannah retailers
have come together to pro
duce an evening of shopping
and entertainment with the
goal of helping the local econ
omy maintain its strength and
community while showcasing
the best that our city has to of
fer in fashion, music, art and
design. The event will once
again take place for the 2013
year with the newly renamed
Savannah’s Fashion Night.
The event is set to take place
September 5th from 6:30p.m.
to 11:00p.m. on Broughton
Street in historic downtown
Savannah.
The 2012 event
saw over 5,000 attendees to
Savannah’s downtown area
shopping at over 30 approved
retailers that also created spe
cial events and sales for the
evening. Vendors saw the true
meaning of a community col
laborative effort to celebrate
fashion, restore consumer
confidence & boost local
economy.
