The Savannah Community
Celebrates The Life Of
Bertha Jaudon Pinkney
Bertha Jaudon
Pinkney was bom, Septem
ber 14, 1929 in Savannah,
Georgia at Montgomery, the
daughter of the late Rev
erend Hampton and Annie
Bell Jaudon. She was ed
ucated in the local public
schools and graduated from
Morris Brown College in
Atlanta, Georgia with a de
gree in Home Economics.
After college, she married
the late Fred V. Goode and
her daughter, Vaughnette
Goode-Walker is from that
union. For a time she lived
in Montclair, New Jersey
and returned to Savannah to
begin her career as an edu
cator.
Mrs. Pinkney was
preceded in death by her
late husband of 35 years,
George Pinkney. She was a
Home Economics teacher at
Tompkins High School for
30 years and after retirement
worked at the Frank C alien
Boys Club with the After
School program.
Mrs. Pinkney was
active in the local chapter of
the Morris Brown College
Alumni and a member and
past president of the Savan
nah Charms, Inc. During her
lifetime, she received many
awards and certificates for
her social and civic work.
The proudest time
of her life seemed to be the
years she spent working un
tiringly at St. Mary’s A. M.E.
Church where her father,
Reverend Hampton Jaudon,
had pastored. “Sister Pink
ney” traveled many miles
doing church work with the
Youth and Adult members
of St. Mary’s.
She attended
workshops and conven
tions helping to assist in the
Christian molding of their
lives. Mrs. Pinkney was a
delegate to the 6th Episco
pal General Conference and
was very active in the Fay
Organization.
Mrs. Pinkney was
a constant caregiver of fam
ily and friends. She always
had a beautiful smile and
kind word to encourage pos
itive and wholesome living.
She was a peacemaker.
Mrs. Pinkney aged
gracefully and reached her
88th birthday. She still had a
great sense of humor. If you
were around her and seemed
a little down, she would
smile and say: “Don’t worry,
be happy!”
She was funeral-
ized Monday, November 27
at St. Mary’s AME Church.
