Grand Opening For New Savannah
Police Northwest Precinct
The Savannah
Police Department held a
grand opening and ribbon
cutting ceremony for their
new Northwest Precinct, lo
cated at 602 E. Lathrop Ave.
near the intersection of West
Bay Street, last Friday.
More than 100
community members, police
officers, local leaders and
city staff attended the event.
The precinct covers down
town Savannah, West Sa
vannah, and the Highlands.
Previously the Northwest
Precinct officers were as
signed to the former Down
town Precinct which was lo
cated just a few blocks away
on East Lathrop Avenue.
The City signed
a long-term lease agree
ment with Great Dane after
they relocated their corpo
rate office. Police will use
the 22,000 sq./ft. facility
to house the precinct patrol
officers, precinct detectives,
the Traffic Unit, Internal Af
fairs Unit, Records Manage
ment Unit and the Person
nel/Budget Office.

FREE GED®-Prep Morning Classes
Now Available in Richmond Hill
This fall, Rich
mond Hill residents that
need a GED® may now go
back to school in the morn
ings to prepare for the exam.
Savannah Technical College
has added a morning session
of its free GED®-prep class
es from 8:30-11:30 a.m. on
Mondays through Thurs
days in Richmond Hill.
Thanks to a part
nership with Bryan County
Recreation, the free GED®-
prep classes will be offered
at the class building on
what’s known as “the bot
tom baseball fields” at 201
Magnolia Street, Richmond
Hill, 31324.
The College had a
demand for morning class
es in Richmond Hill, but
needed a location. STC’s
Vice President of Adult Ed
ucation Dr. Brent Stubbs
reached out to Bryan County
Recreation with the request.
“Dr. Mays immediately re
sponded with interest and a
desire to help,” said Stubbs.
Registration for
the first morning class
is Monday, August 20 at
8:30AM. The first 25 stu
dents to register will receive
lunch. Students are asked to
bring a government issued
ID to register.
Odds may be in
your favor as a Bryan Coun
ty resident; all Savannah
Technical College students
who took the GED® last
year passed, according to
Stubbs.
Census data shows
that 2,700 people in Bryan
County need a GED®, but
only 55 had enrolled in GED
classes last year.
The Col
lege will continue to offer
GED®-prep the following
Bryan County locations:
Richmond Hill Public Li
brary (Monday through
Thursday afternoons) and
Pembroke Public Library
(Monday, Tuesday, Thurs
day evenings). Students may
register for GED®-prep
classes throughout the fall
by checking the schedule
at www.savamiahtech.edu/
bryan.
Savannah Tech’s
Adult Education Program
serves those who need to
improve their basic literacy
and math skills, improve
their oral and written En
glish, practice for the GED®
test to attain a high school
equivalency degree, and
prepare for college. Instruc
tors also help students with
science and social studies
test preparation for GED®
testing. STC teaches adult
education classes in the
morning, afternoon, evening
and online. They are offered
in Bryan, Chatham, Effing
ham and Liberty Counties
with multiple locations in
each community. Adult ed
ucation classes for GED®-
prep are currently tree for
all U.S. citizens. To regis

Free/Reduced Lunch Applications
Available For SCCPSS Families
SCCPSS families
who receive free/reduced
lunch must reapply each
year to maintain their recip
ient status. Prior year meal
status will expire on Sep
tember 13, 2018. Parents
can reapply to maintain that
status beginning next week.
Paper applications
are now available at the new
School Nutrition Applica
tions Center located at 3609
Hopkins Street in Savannah.
The Center will be open
each weekday from 8 am to
5pm.
Parents may also
file an online application.

“Back to School” page at
SCCPSS.com.
There will be no
change to meal prices this
year:
Breakfast is free
for all student, Full Price
Lunch in Grades K-8 is
S2.25, Full Price Lunch in
Grades 9-12 is S2.50, and
Reduced Price Lunch is
S0.40.
Parents can pre
pay lunch for their students
by creating an account at
