Wright Earns Big
12 Honor
Winston Wright, Jr.
The Big 12 Con
ference recently announced
its annual All-Big 12 Con
ference teams and individual
awards, as voted on by the
league’s 10 head coaches.
Among the 2020 honorees
is Savannah native Winston
Wright Jr. who is a wide re
ceiver at West Virginia Uni
versity. Wright was one of
13 Mountaineer players to
earn All-Big 12 honors.
Wright led WVU
in receiving with 45 catches
for 528 yards and two touch
downs. The son of Travis
and Lattice Wright also re
turned 17 kickoffs for a team
leading 366 yards.
The sophomore
business major caught a
career-high nine passes
against Texas Tech for 126
yards. He also hauled in six
receptions for a career-high
127 yards against Oklahoma
State. Wright returned seven
kickoffs for 128 yards, both
career-highs, against Iowa
State.
As a freshman in
2019, the former Memorial
Day School standout played
in ten games, caught 19 balls
for 97 yards and returned
seven kickoffs for 193 yards
and a touchdown.
West Virginia will
conclude their season on
December 31 with a trip to
Memphis, Tennessee to play
Army in the Liberty Bowl.

announced the signing of
Savannah native Kaila Rou
gier during the early signing
period in November. Rou
gier is a senior guard on the
Beach High School girls
basketball team.

Gibbs. “Kaila is a big time
athlete who will have a tre
mendous impact in our pro
gram on and off the court.
She is a dynamic play maker
who fits perfectly into our
system. She is a true culture
kid who will definitely have
an opportunity to leave her
mark on this program.”
Rougier, a 5-foot-
5 combo guard, brings im
pressive credentials to the
UNF program from her
junior season being a pre-
season All-State Class AAA
and GHSA All-South selec
tion; Class AAA South All-
State honoree; all-region
first team selection; and a
All-Star Preps Best of the
Coastal Empire selection.
She helped lead the Lady
Bulldogs to the Class AAA
state title game last season
and was an All-Savannah
Morning News first-team
selection the last two years.
Rougier averaged averaged
15.3 points, 4.6 rebounds,
three assists and 3.5 steals
per game last season while
maintaining a 3.8 grade
point average in the class
room.

with an option to “opt-out”
of competition this year due
to concerns of the virus. In
doing so, the NCAA will al
low the student-athletes to
keep that year of eligibility.
The Rattlers began
preseason camp with a lim

“I’m disappoint
ed for my two seniors and
the young ladies who have
worked very hard to get to
this point,” she said, “how
ever, the safety and health
of our student-athletes is
our top priority. Although
this was a tough decision,
we will continue to support
our young ladies during this
time.”
