Mitchell Wins At
Track Meet
Savannah native
Kadari Mitchell opened his
track & held career as a
member of the Georgetown
men’s indoor track team
with a pair of victories at
the VMI Team Challenge on
December 3 in Lexington,
Virginia.
Mitchell, who is a
graduate transfer at George
town after spending the past
four years at South Carolina
Beaufort, won two races at
the VMI event. The for
mer New Hampstead High
standout won first place in
the 60m race with a person
al best time of 6.84. He also
won the 200m race with a
time of 21.84.

Week

len and Eleik Bowles have
been honored by the South
ern Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference as the Players
of the Week. Allen won the
honor for the women’s side
while Bowles was the men’s
winner.
In their 89-72 win
over Central State of Ohio on
November 28, Allen scored
a career-high 28 points. She
also had eight assists and
three steals in the game. The
Jacksonville, Florida native
followed that by scoring 27
points in the Lady Tigers 74-
63 victory over Anderson on
December 5. In that contest
she made seven of eight free
throw attempts and had four
rebounds, four steals and
two assists.
Bowles led the
SSU men in scoring in their
three games last week. The
6-foot-4 forward scored 18
points against Central State
of Ohio on Nov. 28, scored
a career-high 40 points in a
win over Flagler on Dec. 1
and netted 12 points against
Clayton State on Dec. 3. In
the contest against Flagler,
Bowles made 16 of 20 shots
from the floor and made all
five of his three point at
tempts.
Tigers Beat Miles
in Overtime

The Savannah
State men’s basketball team
overcame a double-digit
deficit and rallied to defeat
Miles 73-63 in overtime in a
game played at Tiger Arena
on December 5.
The Golden Bears
jumped out to a 15-3 advan
tage and held a 33-21 lead
at halftime. SSU trailed by
as many as 14 points in the
second period but chipped
away at their deficit and took
a 51-49 lead with 8:32 left in
regulation. The Tigers were
down by seven with 3:22
showing on the clock but
finished the game with six
unanswered points to send
the game into overtime tied
at 61. In the extra period,
Savannah State outscored
the Golden Bears 12-2 to get
the win and improve their
record to 4-3 overall and 2-1
in the SIAC.
Ayjay Plain led
SSU with 12 points and four
assists. Former Windsor
Forest guard Javonte Landy
had a season-high 11 points
while Eleik Bowles, Flavi
an Bowles and Aly Keys all
chipped in ten points. Eleik
Bowles also had eight re
bounds and three steals.
SSU Lose First
Game

The Savannah
State women’s basketball
team lost their first game of
the season on December 10
with a 84-75 setback from
Anderson.
The game was tied
at 17 after the first quarter
but the Trojans outscored
SSU 20-12 in the second
quarter to carry a 37-29 lead
into the half.
Anderson led by as
many as 16 in the third quar
ter. SSU closed their gap to

run that put the Lady Tigers
away.
Nyla Allen paced
SSU with 18 points while
Jashiyah Jones added 15
points and seven rebounds,
Bria Gibbs scored 12 and
Mia Goolsby chipped in ten.
The non-confer
ence loss dropped SSU to
6-1 overall.
On Dec. 5, Savan
nah State defeated Miles 66-
56 in Tiger Arena. The Lady
Tigers led by five points
with 3:24 left in the fourth
quarter but put together a
11-6 run to end the game
and improve to 4-0 in the
SIAC.
Allen led the way
with 19 points, five steals
and four assists followed by
Amari Heard who had 16
points, eight rebounds and
four assists. Gibbs and Jones
scored 12 points each. Gibbs
also had eight rebounds.
Before the set
back to Anderson, SSU was
ranked seventh in the Sports
Information Directors South
Region poll and 20th in the
Women’s Basketball Coach
es Association poll.
