Proverbs 31:10 -
Who can find a virtuous
woman? for her price is
far above rubies.
Overjoyed with
the installation services
of our Pastor, Rev. Hosea
Washington, Sr. on Decem
ber 4th we move forward in
our journey with the same
enthusiasm with the Moth
er of the Church Dedication
Service scheduled for Sun
day, December 18th at 9:00
am.
With much prayer
and great delight, The New
Mount Zion Baptist Church
will be honoring two Wom
en of GOD, Sis. Carrie But
ler and Sis. Roberta Reyn
olds who have been chosen
to serve as “Mothers of the
Church.” The bible asks the
question, who can find a vir
tuous woman? We, the New
Sis. Carrie Butler
Mount Zion family, have an
swered that question.
Sis. Carrie But
ler is a founding member
of the congregation and the
wife of Dea. John Butler,
Sr. Sis. Roberta Reynolds
is the Youth Sunday School
Teacher and the wife of Rev.
Charles Reynolds. Their life
works speaks to the little
everyday things that others
may take for granted, but we
honor. They are women who
study the word of GOD so
that they can rightly divide
the word of truth. A truth
that allows their wisdom to
be given in a manner that is
so simple that anyone and
everyone can understand.
They are rare jewels who we
take this opportunity to cele
brate.
Service will be
held on Sunday, December

Don’t miss this
outdoor presentation of An
tigone in Savannah on Dec
21, from 5:15pm to 8pm, in
the Unnamed Square (for
merly Calhoun Square) near
an unmarked burial ground
for enslaved Africans.
Antigone in Sa
vannah is a collaboration
between Theater of War
Productions, The On Be
ing Project, and the Center
for Jubilee, Reconciliation,
& Healing that will fea
ture performances by Kara
Young (Clyde’s), Jesse
Eisenberg (The Social Net
work), Ato Blankson Wood
(When They See Us), Krista
Tippett (Host, On Being),
Rosalyn Rouse (Susie King
Taylor: What a Wonderful
Revolution), and Rev. Leon
ard Small (Pastor, Litway
Baptist Church), alongside
choirs and singers from Sa
vannah, St. Louis, and New
York City.
The project fuses
dramatic readings by ac
claimed actors of Sophocles’
Antigone with live choral
and gospel music to frame-
powerful, audience-driven
dialogue about the challeng
es and opportunities of hon
oring the dead and healing
historical wounds. As you
know, December 21 is Sa
vannah’s “Jubilee,” a day of
celebration and commemo
ration that marks the anni
versary of the emancipation
of enslaved Africans when
the Union Army liberated
the city on Dec 21,1864.
By performing
Sophocles’ Antigone, an
ancient play about a young
woman who puts everything
on the line to bury her broth
er, for diverse audiences on
this sacred ground, as well
as on Zoom, the project
aims to generate compas
sion, reverence, understand
ing, and positive action.
The performance will take
place in an unnamed square
that until a month ago was
named after former Vice
President John Calhoun, a
slave owner, white suprem
acist, and staunch defender
of the institution of slavery.
Our grassroots partners in
Savannah—Patt Gunn, Ro
salyn Rouse, and the Center
for Jubilee, Reconciliation
& Healing—are part of an
ongoing effort to rename
the square after Susie King
Taylor, the US Army’s first
black nurse during the Civil
War.
