Glover Makes
Football

Glover has verbally com
mitted to Massachusetts
Maritime Academy to con
tinue his academic and ath
letic career.
During the 2022
football season, Glover
helped lead the Cadets to a
14-13 win over Cedartown
on December 9 in the Geor
gia High School Association
Class AAA state champi
onship game. Glover, who
plays linebacker, had a ca
reer-high 19 tackles in the
game.
In 15 games this
season, Glover had 77 total
tackles (52 solo) along with
eight tackles for loss, two
sacks, seven quarterback
hurries, two pass deflections
and one forced fumble.
Massachusetts
Maritime Academy com
petes on the Division III
level and is a member of the
Massachusetts State Colle
giate Athletic Conference.
The team finished the 2022
season with a 3-7 overall
record and a 3-5 conference
mark.
Tuskegee Sweeps

The Savannah
State men’s and women’s
basketball teams traveled to
Bria Gibbs
Tuskegee on December 15
and both suffered setbacks
on the court.
Tuskegee won the
women’s game 78-62 and
completed the sweep with
a 61-41 victory in the men’s
contest.
Tuskegee jumped
out to a 20-7 lead in the
women’s game. The Golden
Tigers led by as many as 15
points in the second quarter
before SSU rallied to finish
the quarter with a 7-0 and
close their halftime gap to
32-27. In the fourth quarter,
Savannah State battled back
and took a 59-56 lead with
Javonte Landy
7:25 remaining but Tuske
gee ended the game with a
22-6 run to get the win.
Nyla Allen led
SSU with 18 points and five
assists. Bria Gibbs had 13
points and eight rebounds
while Amari Heard added
11 points and six rebounds.
The Tuskegee men
raced out to a 17-7 advan
tage and led 30-16 at inter
mission. The Golden Tigers
began the second half with a
19-3 spurt to take their larg
est lead of the game at 49-19
with 11:16 left. SSU never
recovered and could get no
closer than 18.
Freshman guard
Javonte Landy was the
lone Savannah State player
in double figures with 10
points.
The loss dropped
the Lady Tigers to 6-2 over
all and 4-1 in conference
play while the men fell to
4-4 overall and 2-2 in the
SIAC.
Savannah State
Takes Two From
Spring Hill
Amari Heard
Two days after
being swept by Tuskegee,
the Savannah State basket
ball teams bounced back by
beating Spring Hill on the
road on December 17.
The Savannah
State women won 74-56
while the Tigers claimed a
71-66 victory.

The Lady Tigers
led 28-27 at the half but took
command of the contest in
the second half. SSU led by
eight with just under four
minutes left in the game and
put it away as they closed
the game with a 11-1 run.
Bria Gibbs had
19 points, 14 rebounds and
four blocks for SSU while
Amari Heard had 18 points,
nine rebounds and six steals.
Myasia Jones chipped in 10
points and seven rebounds
as they improved to 7-2
overall and 5-1 in the SIAC.

four steals to lead the Sa
vannah State men to their
fifth win of the season. The
first half featured five ties as
the teams went into the half
knotted at 31. The second
period was just as close al
though SSU was able to take
a 69-61 lead with 26 sec
onds left. Spring Hill whit
tled their deficit to 69-66 but
Ayjay Plain hit a pair of free
throws for SSU at the end.

tion of their schedule with a
5-4 overall record and 3-2
conference mark.
Miller Lands AD Job
Dr. Kimberly Miller
Former Savannah
State University Deputy
Athletic Director Dr. Kim
Miller has been named the
athletic director at Colorado
Mesa University.
Miller becomes
the first woman of color to
be hired as an athletic direc
tor in the Rocky Mountain
Athletic Conference, an
organization of 16 schools
ranging from Utah and New
Mexico to South Dakota.
Prior to her job at
Colorado Mesa, Miller was
the Deputy AD and Senior
Women’s Administrator at
Augustana in South Dakota.
Miller served as an
athletic compliance consul
tant at Savannah State from
November 2018 until being
hired as the Deputy AD. She
was charged with assisting
the institution transition
from Division I to Division
II during her consulting role.
Prior to her time at
Savannah State, Miller spent
time at Elizabeth City State
University as an Assistant
Professor and Sports Man
agement Program Coordina
tor from August of 2018 to
August of 2019 and Living
stone College from January
2018 to June 2018 as an Ath
letic Compliance Consul
tant and Visiting Associate
Professor for Accreditation
of the Sports Management
Program.
From August of
2016 to January of 2018,
Miller held the title of As
sociate Athletic Director
for Internal Operations and
Compliance, Senior Wom
an Administrator and Title
IX Deputy for Athletics for
Western Colorado Universi
ty. From January to June of
2018 she served as an Ath
letic Compliance Consultant
for the University.
While at Western
Colorado, she managed in
ternal operations, served as
the primary contact for the
department in the Athletic
Director’s absence, was a
member of the University’s
Title IX Committee, Student
Affairs Strategic Planning
Committee, Human Re
sources Workplace Com
mittee and Student Conduct
Committee and advised di
versity and inclusion efforts
for the University.
Miller has also
spent time at Shaw Univer
sity in Raleigh, North Car
olina, as an Assistant AD/
SWA from December 2006
to January 2016. She also
served as the head softball
coach from 2008 to 2014.
Dr. Miller is a
graduate of Winston-Salem
State with a degree in Sport
Management and obtained
her Master of Science from
High Point in Sports Stud
ies. She obtained her Doctor
of Philosophy in Education
from Northcentral Univer
sity in July of 2017 with a
Specialization in Sport Man
agement.
