Jr. Parade To Be Held
The Observance
Day Association, Inc. will
present its 43rd annual Rev.
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Parade on January 16, 2023,
beginning at 10:00 AM.
We expect more
than 300 entries to take to
the streets including bands,
civic and social organiza
tions, JROTC units, busi
nesses, and others who want
to join in honoring the life
and works of Dr. King on the
holiday named for him.
You are invited to
participate with your orga
nization or to watch the pa
rade. We are always looking

Chatham REA meeting was
held on Monday, December
12, 2022 at the Southwest
Chatham Library and on
Zoom! It was a festive oc
casion complete with games
and prizes.
Our members vol
unteered with the Christmas
Feed the Hungry event at the
Enmarket Arena.. Chatham
REA President Annette
Mitchell presented gift cards
to Greenbriar Children’s
Center and The Tom Austin
House, to fulfill the chil
dren’s Christmas wish lists.
Dr. Connie Cooper
presented with Holiday
Poinsetta
Chatham REA
members will take a tour
of Jenkins High School on
January 16, 2023. The next
Chatham REA meeting will
be held Monday, February
13, 2023. The location will
be announced. The meeting
will also be aired on Zoom.

Receives Grant From International Paper
M.A.R.T.H.A.,
Incorporated (Moving All
Races To Higher Achieve
ment) is the non-profit,
philanthropic Foundation of
the Gamma Sigma Omega
Chapter of Alpha Kappa Al
pha Sorority, Incorporated.
Recently, the Foundation re
ceived a $3,000 grant from
the International Paper’s
Foundation at the Savannah
Mill. Ms. Karen Bogans,
Communications Manager,
stated “International Paper
is proud to support the work
of this important organiza
tion. Supporting our youth
in these critical areas helps
to build future leaders and
strengthen our community’’.
The award will
be used to support youth
programs that promote col
lege preparation, commu
nity service, and literacy.
M.A.R.TTTA.’s mission is
to inspire, empower, and
support local youth through
educational initiatives that
emphasize the environment,
health, literacy, economics,
and the arts. Some of the ini
tiatives that were previously
sponsored by the Founda
tion helped juniors and se
niors navigate the college
admissions process.
