Lottery applications
for SCCPSS Pre-IC Lottery
Funded Sites are available on
line through Friday, February
24, 2023. More information
and a site list can be found at

To qualify for the lot
tery process, parents must be
prepared to submit the child’s
birth certificate and proof of
address with the online appli
cation. All applications must
be submitted by February 24,
2023. An independent, comput
erized lottery process will take
place and parents will be noti
fied of their child’s placement
or wait list status by email on
March 22,2023.
Funding from the
Georgia Lottery provides a
limited number of Pre-Kinder
garten classes. The program
provides services to children
who are four years old on or
before September 1, 2023 and
residing in Chatham County.

resenting 56 SCCPSS schools
will be honored - with one of
four finalists for the award be
ing named District Teacher of
the Year. WJCL News Anchor
Shannon Royster will serve as
Mistress of Ceremonies.
As a representative
of the many quality teachers
across the Savannah-Chatham
County Public School System,
the District’s Teacher of the
Year is honored with the dis
tinction of having the Flag of
Learning and Liberty proudly
displayed at their school. In
addition to leading the SC
CPSS Professional Senate for
Savannah-Chatham educators,
the District Teacher of the
Year acts as ambassador vis
iting local schools throughout
the year, taking part in school
board meetings and represent
ing the district at various events
throughout the area.
The teacher selected
will also become the District
representative for the Geor
gia State Teacher of the Year
program and receive an array
of gifts including a new iPad,
the Teacher of the Year name
badge and a Teacher of the Year
ring. The gifts are made possi
ble through gracious donations
provided by contributing spon
sors.

their partnership for the inau
gural Women’s Build Month
to take place during March
2023. Women’s Build events
allow individuals to support
Habitat’s mission of “building
homes, community, and hope,’’
in whatever capacity they are
able.
Offering a multi
tude of events throughout
the month, this year’s theme,
“Girls play house, women
build them,’’ focuses on em
powering women to take a pro
active step in serving Chatham
County. No construction expe
rience is necessary and oppor
tunities range from assisting
in build days to networking,
social hours, raffles and bene
fit nights to support Habitat. A
Women’s Owned Marketplace
will be the culminating event
of the inaugural series.
“I am so excited about
our partnership with Habitat for
Humanity and the impact that
we can have together through
Women Build/ Women In Con
struction Week,’’ says Jessica
Leavitt, NAWIC Chair. “This
month-long initiative is near to
dear to our organization. I be
lieve that Habitat and NAWIC
have shared values around giv
ing back as well as empower
ment and mentorship. We are
looking forward to a successful
month of engaging conversa
tion and building community.’’

Gardens
Energy
Efficiency
Community
Event
The City of Savan
nah Office of Sustainability
will host a community event in
Savannah Gardens to provide
energy-efficiency outreach and
education to residents. The
event will be held in the park
of Savannah Gardens (520 E.
Crescent Drive) from 10 a.m.
to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 25.
There will be fun for the whole
family, including a bounce
house, music, food, and com
munity resources.
At the event, resi
dents can learn about FREE
home-improvement programs
to help them save energy. The
programs are available to res
idents who rent or own their
home, if they meet the pro
gram’s income requirements
(household income at or be
low 200% of Federal Poverty
Guidelines; information avail
able at www.bit.ly/heeapin-
come).
“Those of us who
live and work in Savannah are
often burdened with expensive
energy bills just from trying to
stay warm in the winter and
cool in the summer,’’ said De
nise Cheeseman, City of Sa
vannah Office of Sustainability
Project Manager. “The Office
of Sustainability is here to con
nect you with resources like
Georgia Power’s HEEAP pro
gram, which can help you keep
your home comfortable with
less energy use. We hope to see
everyone out at Savannah Gar
dens on the 25th to learn more
and take advantage of this free
program.’’
Interested residents
should bring a copy of their
Georgia Power bill to the
event. On-site assistance with
the application process will be
available.
