Woodville Tompkins Teacher Named Foreign
Language Teacher of the Year for Georgia
The First African
Baptist Church of East Savan
nah, 402 Treat Avenue, will
celebrate their 62nd ‘Brothers
and Sisters Day’ on Sunday,
March 19, 2023. Our theme is:
Traveling by Faith.
There will be a morn
ing worship service at 11:00
a.m. with Ms. Leah A.J. Lloyd,
LPC as our guest messenger.
Ms. Lloyd has an
undergraduate degree in Psy
chology with an emphasis in
Bioethics from Tuskegee Uni
versity and a Master of Edu
cation degree in Community
Counseling, with a certificate
in Marriage and Family Ther
apy from the University of
Georgia.
Ms. Lloyd is a psy
chotherapist, wellness coach,
Ms. Leah A.J. Lloyd
and international diversity,
equity and inclusion (DEI)
training facilitator. She is a Na
tional Certified Counselor and
Licensed Professional Coun
selor in Georgia and Pennsyl
vania.
Ms. Lloyd is an active
member of Little Bryan Baptist
Church. Her guiding scripture
is Romans 2:8: And we know
all things work together for
good to those who love God, to
those who are called according
to His purpose.

World Language Teacher of the
Year for 2023-24 at the For
eign Language Association of
Georgia’s Annual Conference
in Atlanta on Saturday, March
11,2023. F.L.A.G. is an asso
ciation of instructors, adminis
trators, and others involved in
foreign language teaching and
the promotion of cultural un
derstanding. The basic goal of
FLAG is to improve and foster
the teaching of foreign lan
guages and cultures (including
literature) through service to
the teachers in the state. The
Teacher of the Year award rec
ognizes teachers who effective
ly strive to use various strate
gies, techniques, and materials
to enhance the students’ inter
est in, acquisition of, and profi
ciency in a second language.

Savannah African Art Museum
To Host ‘Honoring Women
Trailblazers’ Workshop In March
For Women’s History Month
Savannah African
Art Museum is slated to host
a “Honoring Women Trail-
blazers’’ workshop for Wom
en’s History Month, featuring
Connie Williams on Saturday,
March 25 from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m.
on the second floor of the Ter
racotta Gallery, located at 201
East 37th Street in Savannah.
Please know that this is on the
second floor, and it is stair ac
cess only.
This workshop will
be facilitated by a trailblaz-
er in our community, Connie
Williams, who is a docent at
the museum, entrepreneur, and
Chief in the village of Kpanvo
(Northern Region of Tamale,
Ghana). She was appointed
Chief in 2009 for applying her
diverse leadership experience
in banking, finance, and inter
national business relationships
with her commitment to busi
ness development and com
munity programs for women
and young adults. During the
workshop, participants will
learn about Connie Williams’
work in Ghana, her Savanna
Naturals business here in the
U.S. and she will facilitate a
workshop using authentic shea
butter from Ghana.
