The Multi-Agency Alliance for Children Partners
with Amerigroup Georgia to Provide Workforce
Training and Employment Opportunities
Every year, hundreds
of young adults age out of the
foster care system in Georgia.
Many have experienced vary
ing degrees of abuse and ne
glect, often without the tools
to appropriately process their
trauma. This can have detri
mental effects on those who
are transitioning into adulthood
and the workforce, making
them less likely to find employ
ment and increasing the possi
bility they become homeless.
To address these
challenges, the Multi-Agency
Alliance for Children (MAAC)
and Amerigroup Georgia have
partnered to provide young
adults who have experienced
foster care with critical work
force training and employment
opportunities. Amerigroup has
awarded a $100,000 sponsor
ship to support and expand
the MAAC Employment and
Training program (MET). The
program centers on communi
ty partnerships with employers
that include education, techni
cal training, soft skill devel
opment, and mitigating sys
temic barriers while focusing
on an individualized approach
tailored to the needs of each
young person participating.
Arthur Beaumont, His Life and Art
Artist Arthur Beaumont’s career as the official artist of the U.S. Navy Fleet culminated in
numerous paintings and drawings that cover more than five decades
Ships of the Sea is
honored to host a celebration
of Beaumont to commemo
rate his prestigious career and
amazing art. “He utilized real
ly vivid and dramatic coloring
in his work. These paintings
transport you to a certain pe
riod in time — don’t have to
know anything about World
War II to feel an emotional re
sponse,” said Ships of the Sea
Deputy Director and Curator
Wendy Melton.
Joining the festivi
ties on April 6 is James Irvine
Swinden, president of The
Irvine Museum in California
and organizer of this exhibi
tion. “Like California, your
beautiful city beckons artists
to paint in nature. Arthur Beau
mont was dedicated to work
ing en plein air, using rapid
brushstrokes. He differed from
other California artists in that
ships were his central subject,
not landscapes, mountains, or
beaches. Beaumont captured
the distinctive personality and
spirit of mighty warships, all in
a moment in time,” said Swin
den.
His son, Goeffrey
Beaumont who will also be at
tending the celebration to share
stories of his father’s daring
work, said “he would want to
be remembered for his contin
uous search for adventure, for
his love of ships, and legacy of
historic art.
Please join Ships
of the Sea in celebrating this
important artist on Thursday,
April 6 at 5:30 p.m. Tickets
are $15 and can be purchased
in advance via Eventbrite or at
the door.
For Ships of the Sea

Savannah Music Festival’s New “Explorer Pass”
Provides Free Admission for Local SC CPS
Students and a Chaperone
The Savannah Music
Festival (SMF) is pleased to
launch the new Explorer Pass,
providing free admission to
world-class concerts for Savan
nah-Chatham County Public
School System (SCCPSS) stu
dents throughout the 2023 Sa
vannah Music Festival, which
runs from March 25 through
April 8. The Explorer Pass is
one of many Savannah Music
Festival community outreach
efforts designed to expand ac
cess to the festival for area res
idents and their families.
“At the Savannah
Music Festival, music educa
tion is a key part of our mission
and an important cornerstone
in our community outreach
initiatives,” said Savannah
Music Festival Senior Director
of Community Impact Jenny
Woodruff. “The new Explor
er Pass is an extension of our
popular Musical Explorers
program, which provides year-
round musical education to
area public school students in
kindergarten through second
grade. We are especially com
mitted to expanding access to
live music for young people
in our community and want to
nurture future generations of
musicians and music-lovers.”
With the new Explor
er Pass, current Savannah-Cha-
tham County Public School
System (SCCPSS) students
can get free entry for them
selves and a parent, guardian or
chaperone to any of the SMF’s
impressive lineup of general
admission shows. The 2023
Savannah Music Festival of
fers a diverse range of genres,
including jazz, blues, world
music, bluegrass, Americana
and classical. The 2023 festival
includes more than 30 general
admission performances in his
toric venues across Savannah.
“We are so excited
about the new Explorer Pass,”
said Savannah-Chatham Coun
ty Public School System Su
perintendent Dr. Ann Levett.
“Giving our young scholars and
their families access to first-
class musical experiences is
one of the things we love most
about the Savannah Music Fes
tival. We hope the exposure to
all types of music inspires our
students and gives them new
windows on the world.”
In order to get free
tickets through the new Ex
plorer Pass program, SCCPSS
students can report to the ven
ue Box Office an hour prior to
the listed showtime to show an
active school-issued ID, report
card or other communication
from SCCPSS indicating that
child is an enrolled student. The
student and a parent, guardian,
or chaperone can then enter the
venue and choose their seats.
The Savannah Music
Festival’s free Musical Explor
ers program connects local el
ementary students to diverse
musical communities, building
basic music skills as students
learn songs from different cul
tures and reflect on their own
communities. After focusing
on three musical genres each
semester, in-person and digi
tal concerts allow students to
“meet” the professional musi
cians that have guided them on
their musical journeys.
