City to Host Open Records Event
for Georgia Cities Week
The City’s Clerk of
Council Office will host an
educational event for the com
munity about open records re
quests on Tuesday, April 25,
from 6-7 p.m. at the Savannah
Civic Center. At this event,
staff will share valuable infor
mation about what residents
can request through the open
records portal and all the de
tails associated with making a
request.
The Clerk of Coun
cil Office planned this event
as part of Georgia Municipal
Associations’ Georgia Cities
Week, which runs from April
23-29. GMA’s Georgia Cities
Week is part of an ongoing ef
fort to raise public awareness
about the services that cities
perform and to educate the
public on how city government
works.
“An informed com
munity is an empowered com
munity,” said Clerk of Council
Mark Massey. “I’m glad we
have the opportunity to share
valuable information that our
residents should know about,
which will continue to build
trust between the City govern
ment and our community.”

SPD Opens Summer Camp
Application Period
The Savannah Police
Department will begin accept
ing applications for its Police
Athletic/Activities Feague
Summer Camp on April 1.
The application dead
line is 5 p.m. May 1, with camp
sessions beginning in June.
The camp is free and
for children ages 8-14. The ini
tiative is designed to provide
youth with a fun and safe en
vironment for the summer as
well as inspire them to strive to
go to college. The camp is open
to children who are Savannah
residents.
Campers will learn
skills in character building,
goal setting, decision making,
crime reporting, web safety,
self-defense and much more.
Fearning strategies will include
guest speakers, field trips and
hands-on activities. Campers
will also be exposed to many
aspects of college life with the
support of Savannah State Uni
versity.
There will be two
one-week camps for boys and
girls:
Boys: June 5-9 or June 26-30
Girls: June 12-16 or July 10-14
The camps will take
begin each day at Savannah
Impact, 2005 Waters Ave. Each
camp will run Monday-Friday
from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Early
drop off begins at 8 a.m. Funch
will be provided at no cost to
families.
The application dead
line is May 1 at 5 p.m. At that
time, the application process
will begin to make the selec
tion of children accepted into
the camp. There is a limited
number of spots available.
Applications are available for
pickup and return at police
headquarters and all precincts.

in 2014 under the direction of
Major Richard Zapal (retired)
to develop rapport between
youth and the law enforcement
community early in life. It is
now overseen by Cpl. Dion
