Chatham Co. Health Department Hosts
Meningococcal Vaccine Clinics for Rising
High School Juniors
“Holla If Ya Hear Me” Event Held
was an opportunity to listen to
the issues our young men are
faced with on a daily basis.
“All I can say is that GOD is
truly amazing”, said Olga Wil
liams, one of the founders of
the organization. “Our young
men spoke from their hearts,
and WE were able to listen
!!!!! Listening is a gift, and
that is what God placed on our
hearts....to LISTEN!!” Wil
liams continued.
Many of our young
men are dealing with so many
issues in life, from social me
dia pressure, school, friend
ships, and identity crises in
cluding gun violence which
affects everyone. This listening
event provided an outlet for the
young men to express them
selves and to let them know
that WE (community) are here
for them and are ready to help
provide solutions where need
ed.

Tremont Temple Celebrates
101st Church Anniversary
Tremont Temple
Missionary Baptist Church
has a reason to give praise.
The members will celebrate
the church’s 101 Anniversary
on Sunday morning, April 23,
2023. The theme for the occa
sion is “Still Standing” and is
taken from Psalm 59:16: “But
I will sing of your strength, in
the morning I will sing of your
love; for you are my fortress,
my refuge in times of trouble .”
The celebration will be held in
the church’s sanctuary at 1110
Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. ,
and begins at 10:00am.
In highlighting
the day’s celebration, Trem
ont Temple will welcome
Rev. Daniel J. Foster, III of
Tremount Temple Mission
ary Baptist Church in Metter,
Georgia. The public is invited
Rev. Daniel J. Foster, III
to come out and join in this
joyous occasion.
The Chatham County
Health Department is hosting
a series of meningitis vaccine
clinics for rising high school
juniors, with the first event
happening Thursday, April
20th. All students in Georgia
who are at least 16 years of age
are required to have a menin
gococcal booster shot when
entering 11th grade. Students
can be denied school entry if
vaccinations aren’t up to date.
Dr. Sierra Peebles,
nurse manager of the Chatham
County Health Department,
hopes these special vaccine
events will help families avoid
the back-to-school rush. “Ev
ery year we see a big demand
for school vaccine appoint
ments in late summer and early
fall which can lead to delays
and long wait times,” said
Peebles. “If you have a 10th
grader who is already 16 years
old, you can take care of this
booster shot requirement now,
saving you time and frustration
later.”
Four meningococcal
booster shot events will be held
at the Eisenhower Clinic at
1395 Eisenhower Drive. Ap
pointments are available from
3-6 p.m. on April 20, April 27,
May 4, and May 11.
Appointments are
required and can be scheduled
online at coastalhealthdistrict.
org/teenclinic or by calling
the Chatham County Health
Department at 912-356-2441.
A parent or guardian must ac
company the child to the ap
pointment. Most insurance will
be accepted, and a nominal ad
ministration fee will be charged
for those without insurance.
These online appointments
are ONLY for meningococcal
booster shots for teens. Please
call the clinic directly for all
other vaccine appointments.
The meningococ
cal booster shot helps prevent
meningococcal disease, a bac
terial infection that is very
serious and can be deadly in
a matter of hours. Meningitis
is a swelling of the brain and
spinal cord and can result in
brain damage, hearing loss, or
worse. Disease levels increase
in adolescence starting around
age 11, and peak around age
19 years. Georgia students al
ready receive a meningococcal
vaccination before entering 7th
grade, and this new booster
will provide added protection
during these peak years of risk.
“HOLLA IF YA
HEAR ME” was an event pre
sented by Olga and Leroy Wil
liams along with Dominique’s
World, which is a is a Mentor
ship Program that will Inspire,
Empower and Ignite the youth
to be all they can be. Last Sat
