Heart Of Gold Art Auction &
Fundraising Event To Be Held
Heart of Gold is
an exclusive event that will
bring together art enthusiasts,
philanthropists, and support
ers of Royce Learning Center.
This event to be held on April
28, 2023 at Ships of the Sea
Maritime Museum, will raise
community awareness to our
programs at Royce and serve
as a catalyst to fund the start of
our new Connection Center at
Royce. The Connection Center
extends the mission of Royce
to include a population that is
currently underserved in our
community. It will allow neu-
rodiverse students with ASD1
to experience time in a school
setting by providing more re
search backed programs and
resources on site. It will give
these students a place to belong
as they learn to navigate their
gifts and challenges. It will of
fer a professional staff that is
trained, certified and experi
enced to provide students the
scaffolding they need to partic
ipate in opportunities just like
every other child. Together we
are supporting positive change
by meeting the academic, so
cial and emotional needs of
an underserved population of
youth.
The online art auc
tion is open to the public. Bid
ding will continue at the event
with all art on display and end
around 8:30 pm that night.
You do not have to be present
to bid on items. Just a few of
the artists featured include
Stacie Jean Albano, Curtis
Bartone, Angela Burson, Mary
Hartman, Marcus Kenney, Pan
handle Slim, Peter E. Roberts,
Matt Toole, and many more!
Chatham Academy student
collaborations with Stacie Jean
Albano, and teachers Jessica
Loyd and Annie Quaile, will
be auctioned live at the event!
Collaborative prints will be
available for purchase. Tickets
to the event are $50 and include
delectable delights from Chef
Kirk Blaine. We hope you will
consider joining us for an art
ful evening.
Historic Savannah Foundation
to Host Preservation Awards
Historic Savannah
Foundation (HSF) will launch
its celebration of Preservation
Month in May with the annual
Historic Preservation Awards
on Thursday, May 4. The event
gets underway at 5:30 p.m. at
the Charles H. Morris Cen
ter, located at 10 E. Broad St.
HSF will bestow the annual
awards to indiv, iduals and
organizations whose contribu
tions demonstrate excellence in
preservation in Savannah and
Chatham County.
Previous winners of
the coveted Historic Preserva
tion Awards have included the
Georgia Historical Society Re
search Center, the Persse Phar
macy and Corner Store, Clark
Hall of Savannah College of
Art and Design, and Starland
Rehabilitation Project.
HSF will also pres
ent the Lee and Emma Adler
Award for Preservation Ad
vocacy. The award was es
tablished to honor the Adlers’
vast contributions to historic
preservation in Savannah. The
city is the historic and icon
ic landmark that it is today in
great part because of the Ad
lers’ work, which began in the
1960s. They worked in their
community, with Historic Sa
vannah Foundation, and with
local government agencies to
implement preservation laws
and education. HSF does not
give this award every year. The
organization bestows it only to
those deserving of the title of
“advocate” to honor two of the
all-time greatest champions the
preservation community has
ever known.
The organization will
also pay tribute to the late Jane
Jacobs. Born May 4, 1916, Ja
cobs was an urbanist and ac
tivist who championed a com
munity-based approach to city
building. To celebrate her work
in preservation and the anniver
sary of her birthday, a special
birthday cake was served in her
honor.
The event - designed
as a fun, celebratory evening
amongst friends - will include
cocktails, a food truck, and
plenty of networking opportu
nities.
“This will be a won
derful evening in Savannah
honoring community mem
bers who have worked hard to
preserve it. HSF is excited to
bring everyone together again
to commemorate the import
ant role preservation has in our
city,” said Assistant Director
Colleen Reynolds. “We hope
you’ll bring your families and
join us on May 4 for the fun!”
Established in 1973
by the National Trust for His
toric Preservation, Preservation
Month is co-sponsored by local
preservation groups, state his
torical societies, and business
and civic organizations across
the country. Throughout May,
many observances are planned
nationwide to promote historic
places for the purpose of instill
ing national and community
pride, promoting heritage tour
ism, and showing the social and
economic benefits of historic
preservation. In addition to the
awards, HSF is also planning
various events including a spe
cial edition lecture on May 18.
Details will be released soon.
