U.S. Senator Jon Os
soff is working to help Georgia
renters build credit and become
homeowners.
This week, Sen. Os
soff launched an inquiry with
some of the largest rental hous
ing providers to help renters
have better opportunities at
building credit and becoming
homeowners.
Sen. Ossoff is call
ing on executives of Greystar;
Harbor Group International;
Starwood Capital; Domini
um Apartments; the Hallmark
Companies; and the Michaels
Organization, to make it eas
ier for families to join Fannie
Mae’s Multifamily Positive
Rent Payment Reporting pilot
program, which helps renters
build a positive credit history
and wealth.
Sen. Jon Ossoff
“As one of the largest
multifamily housing owners
to be financed by Fannie Mae,
you are responsible for provid
ing affordable rental housing
to countless individuals and
families. As you know, build
ing wealth has become increas
ingly difficult for many Amer
icans, especially individuals
without credit scores or sub
stantial credit histories - most
of whom are low-income,”
Sen. Ossoff wrote to each of
the housing providers.
A 2020 Consumer
Financial Protection Bureau
(CFPB) report found that ap
proximately 26 million adults
in the United States lack a cred
it record and 19 million have a
credit record but no score.
Adults without credit
record or scores include loyal
tenants who pay rent on time
each month. Until recently,
rental history has not been re
ported to the three major credit
bureaus: Experian, Equifax,
and TransUnion.
Sen. Ossoff is con
tinuing his work to ensure all
Georgians can achieve home-
ownership.
Earlier this year, Sen.
Ossoff introduced the bipar
tisan HELPER Act alongside
Sen. Rubio (R-FL) to help first
responders, teachers and law
enforcement officers to buy
their first home.
Last year. Sen. Ossoff
pushed the Federal Housing Fi
nance Agency to address the
inadequate supply of afford
able housing across rural Geor
gia.

The Underdog Presidential Candidate, RFK Jr. and His Pledge To
Black America
By Stacy M. Brown, NNPA Newswire Senior National Correspondent @StacyBrownMedia
Robert F. Kennedy
Jr., a member of the illustrious
Kennedy dynasty, is making a
run for the Democratic pres
idential nomination and has
declared that he is steadfastly
committed to continuing his
family’s enduring legacy. One
of the children of the late Sen.
Robert Kennedy, who was as
sassinated during his bid to
obtain the Democratic Party’s
candidacy in 1968, Kennedy
announced his presidential
candidacy earlier this year. He
announced his campaign for
the 2024 United States pres
idential election on April 19,
2023, challenging incumbent
president Joe Biden for the
Democratic Party nomination.
Both his father
and uncle, John F. Kennedy,
demonstrated a desire for a
united and strong America,
which he says inspires him. In
a one-on-one interview with
the Black Press of America,
Kennedy spoke about his re
lentless focus on combating
environmental racism, ending
qualified immunity for law
enforcement officers, and ad
dressing the alarming racial
disparities within the American
medical system.
The 69-year-old Dis
trict of Columbia-born can
didate said he’s championing
causes that have plagued mar
ginalized communities for far
too long. His mission, he insist
ed, extends beyond rhetoric,
seeking to dismantle systemic
barriers and usher in a brighter,
more equitable future, partic
ularly for African Americans
who have borne the brunt of in
justice, including the problem
atic issue of maternal mortality.
As he steps onto the
political stage where his uncle,
John F. Kennedy, is regard
ed as one of the most popular
presidents in American history
and where his father had all but
sewn up the Democratic Par
ty’s prior to his assassination,
Kennedy’s candidacy could
challenge the status quo and
spark a transformative move
ment that reverberates through-

out the nation.
“Black Americans
are going to be a principal
priority for me, particularly in
ending that fear of dangerous
interaction with law enforce
ment,” Kennedy asserted. He
also pledged a move to end
qualified immunity, which pro
tects police officers from per
sonal liability in the event of a
lawsuit. “There is no incentive
for individuals to change bad
behavior,” Kennedy remarked.
“We need systemic changes.
We need to remove qualified
immunity, which would make
it necessary for an individual
to consider his liability with
every interaction. Every good
economic system [should] in-
centivize good behavior and
punish bad behavior. We need
to have that.” Kennedy added
that there’s a need for a reorga
nization of police to understand
the mission of protecting and
serving “instead of being in
combat mode when they come
into the Black community.”
Even with his contro
versial views surrounding vac
cinations, some surveys reflect
Kennedy gamering as much
as 20% support among Dem
ocrats. His challenge to the in
cumbent, President Joe Biden,
continues to gain steam.
