to announce that the applica
tion for our annual parade is
available. To streamline our
process, we are now accept
ing applications for the parade.
You can easily submit an ap
plication and pay the entry fee
from the convenience of your
computer. You also have the
option of completing the ap
plication at our office located
at 1206 Martin Luther King, Jr.
Dr., in Savannah, GA. Call for
an appointment. The number is

is the instructions for complet
ing the application online.

This will take you to the 2024
MLK Parade Application.
Please read the instructions. At
the bottom, type in your name
and the name of your organi
zation. Type in the date. Click
“SUBMIT”.
Complete the infor
mation form. All questions
with a must have a re
sponse, even if the response is
“NONE”. Verify you are not a
robot.
Click “SEND UNIT
REGISTRATION”.
Click “CONTINUE”.
Select Payment that
applies to your unit. If paying
in person, select one of the free
payment types. If not, click on
the payment type for your unit,
scroll to the bottom, and select
“SUBMIT”.
You will receive con
firmations at the email address
you designate.

Georgia Legislative Black Caucus’Annual
Conference Features Free Workshops,
Break-Out Sessions
The Georgia Legisla
tive Black Caucus, chaired by
State Representative Carl Gil-
liard (D-Savannah), will offer
free workshops and break-out
sessions to the public during its
annual conference in Savannah
from Friday, July 21, 2023 -
Sunday, July 23, 2023. Geor
gians are invited to participate
in free workshops on health
care, voter education, the crim
inal justice system, agriculture
and the economic impact of the
African Diaspora.
“This year, we really
want the public, especially fu
ture Black leaders, to be able
to participate in the conference
at no-cost,” said Rep. Gilliard.
“These free sessions aim to
remove barriers from citizens
getting to interact with legisla
tive and policy experts. Hope
fully, this will enable more
participants to enjoy traveling
to Savannah for this unique ed
ucational experience.”
On Friday, July 17,
the free events will kick-off
with the Urban League of At
lanta’s presentation on the
“State of Black Georgia” at
the Ralph Mark Gilbert Civil
Rights Museum. Later that day,
the “Black Roundtable” will
also feature lawyers, judges
and district attorneys at Savan-

nah State University’s Elmore
Auditorium.
During the second
day, several panel sessions will
be available to the public. The
Southern Center for Human
Rights will host the “Decrimi
nalizing Race & Poverty in the
Criminal Legal System” break
out session. Other break-out
sessions include “The Role of
Young Leaders,” “Pathways
to Progress: Building Healthi
er Rural Community Through
Partnership” and “Agriculture
in Georgia: A Health Emergen
cy.”
The public is also
invited to join the caucus for
a Sunday morning worship
service at First African Bap
tist Church. Rep. Gilliard will
serve as a guest speaker during
the service.
Additionally, the
GLBC will present awards to
the following individuals at the
conference: Georgia Supreme
Court Justice Verda M. Col
vin, East Point Mayor Dean
na Holiday Ingraham, Nancy
Flakes Johnson with the Ur
ban League, Yvonne T. Brooks
with AFL-CIO, Deborah Scott,
Audraine Jackson and Tina Ty-
us-Shaw.
Recognized as one of
the largest Black caucuses in
the nation, the GLBC is a group
of elected officials dedicated to
advocating for the needs and
concerns of Black Georgians.
The caucus includes 74 mem
bers who represent more than
three million residents.

FREE School Screening Clinics in Savannah
The Chatham County
Health Department will offer
two FREE school screening
clinics on July 20 and 27. The
eye, ear, dental, and nutrition
screenings are required for all
students entering a Georgia
school for the first time.
The mandatory
screenings typically cost $30,
but for these two days only,
the screenings are free. The
screening clinics will be held
at the health department at
1395 Eisenhower Drive at the
following dates and times. No
appointment is needed.
• July 20, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
• July 27, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Immunizations will
also be provided during these
events but will not be free.
However, most insurance is
accepted, and there are low-
cost immunization options for
individuals without insurance
coverage.
All other screening
and immunization visits at the
Chatham County Health De
partment require an appoint
ment and must be scheduled by
calling 912-356-2441.
