Mrs. Hugh Bankston, we hear, is quite sick. The grand jury this term was a very able body, Air. J. II. Castlen, of Culloden, was in town this week. Mr. Joe Horne, of Macon, was here sev¬ eral days this week. J’otice the advertisement of foreclosure of mortgage on auotner page. Rev. \V. L. Carter attended the district conference in Macon several days. Read advertisement of machinery for sale. It is offered at about half price. The popular Ala con merchant, Mr. B. II. Ray, has been in town most of the week. Rt v. Air. Loring and wife, of Vienna arc in town the gnests of Mr. B. A. Hart¬ ley. Miss Minnie Persons, of Culloden, is in town visiting the family of Col. R. D. Smith. There are not enough bouses in Knox vilie to accommodate !hose who want to move here. Miss Alice Bond, of the western portion of the county visited Miss Ida Hortm n during the week. Miss Alpha McManus, of Sandy Point, was in town during the week, the guest of Mis* Lillie Blasingame. The patent cbnrn man has been here all the week. He will be here during court week 100 years from this time. Mr. W. R. Davis, of Culloden. a director -of the Atlanta & Florida raihoal company, was in town several days this week. Miss Belle Bowers of the western por lon of the county, visited tire family of Mr. J. W. Blasingameduring the week. Superior court only lasted two and one half days. This sh ws the affiirs of the county to he in a very hialtny condition. Lawyer Bayne, of Macon, said the other day- that J. L. Horne, of the sane town, had more cheek than any man he ever saw. Joe Horne proffered to bring Mr. Bayne out to Crawford Superior court, which be did. He traded his team for a drove of cattle and ixpected Col. Bayne to help drive them back to the Central City. The Union Central Life is getting to be the strongest insurance company doing business in Georgia. Mr. Blasingame, the agent for this county and several others, tells us his company is preparing to erect a large building in Macon to cost $150,000. Mr. B. is having wonderful success in the insurance business, and the main reason fir this is because he represnts one of the best companies on the globe. I* roll lie Corn. We feel no hesitation in saying that Mr, Wi Iter Clark has seed corn of a vari¬ ety sadly needed in this country. Slembridge can now bo found behind the counters of Sam Solomon, 410 Poplar street, Macon. T. R., Crawford County. 8>ied. On the ICth inst. Mr. J. W. Rowell, of this county died, after quite a severe afflic¬ tion which was cauied, it is thought, by a wound received dining the war. Shcrley, living a short distance froil town, has been making extraordinary efforts for son e time past to istablish a n-w industry on his iarm. It is nothing more nor less than the raising of partridges for market. It is said that he has been buying par¬ tridges by wholesale, hut just about the time he had gotten a* many as ho wanted to stock his farm and settle down to busi¬ ness in earnest he found tiiey were all ‘ roosters,’’ and now he is going to bring suit against the parties who sold them In him lor practicing such fowl play upor. him.
