'Uho bagging pool ought to be let down,
and it will be if the Farmers Alliance does

The Farmers Alliance of I’olk county
have built a large two-story house at Rock
mart to be bo. used as a store and ware¬
house, The order is flourishing in that
good old county.
It is claimed by protectionists that the
result of the Mills bill would be to lower
wages. If that were the case eveiy manu¬
facturer up North would become converted
to free trade at once.
Why don’t those democratic journals which
devote so much attention to national politics
■ urn their attention towards seeing who will
■e elected president in 1893 '! This is much
more of a question than who will be elect¬
ed piesident in 89,
The appearnee of the Eastman 3'orn
■iij Journal reminds us of the old
tion “ the substance of things hoped for;
the evidence of tilings not seen”.
Eastman paper is the one that tried to
icule us some time ago.
It is all well enough for Mrs. Cleveland
and other married ladies to boycott the
bustle, but courting young men object to
the girls giving up this useful article of
attire. The old wire bustle ia mighty
good to rest a tired arm on.
Since our suggesting cotton cloth cover¬
ing for our crop, in place of bagging, we
liuye noticed that a number of oiliers journ
als proposed the same thing at about the
same time This .is undoubtedly the best
plan for the farmers to addopt.
It is stated that J. II. Estill the proprie¬
tor of the Savannah Morning News, has
purchased the Macon Telegraph. The News
office is one of the best Hu the South, and
the paper '?does a large business. The
Telegraph is ’also a money-making piece
of,property. This shows that {some of us
will prosper in spite cf hard times in the
1 ml.
The annexation of Cuba to the United
Stales is a toj ic that continues to be
discussed it great deal by prominent Amer¬
icans. The treasury of our government is
overflowing, while Spain’s treasury isemty
It seams that a trade for the islanud might
he easily effected, and our land would be
greatly becfitted by having an addition of
such a rich country.
A rum ir was in circulation on Wednes¬
day that Gen. Hanison had written a let¬
ter of withdrawal, ostensibly on the ground
of ill health, but really because of the
greater honors shown to Blaine. But a
special from Indianapolis to the New York
livening Post contradicts it, say Gen.
.Harrison is in sound health and never
tf.outeroplated such a thing.
There are many live and .progressive
citizens in Crawford county. I here are
also a number of stumbling block kind of
citizens iu the county. ' The last mentioned
class could do as much good for this sect )od
as the other, if they would. However, we
are pleased to note that a spirit of progress
is growing generally, and we look for a
steady march forward, which will be a
continuation of the one started already.
Recently Sam Jones said of marria ge:
“1 he best thing on this earth is a happy
marriage, and the worst thing an nnhappy
marriage. Whom the Lord hath joined
together let no man put asunder, But
whom the devil hath joined let then: go to
Chicago. I am a lover of children. When
God gives a man a wife and six or eight
children, He has done something Jfor him.
But when He gives him a wife and a cana¬
ry bird He has just thrown off on him”
If it is true, as stated in some of the
newspapers, that Gen. James A. Walker,
of Virginia, has announced his intention
of voting for Harrison and Morton, there
will be au immediate and complete change
of heart on the part of republican organs
with regard to him. Newspapers which
referred to him as '‘ku-klux," traitor etc.,
while he was a democrat will now call
him a patriot. Their treatment of a man
dependsjwholly upon the question whether
he is a republican or not.—Savannah News.
Blessed is the man who sitteth not in the
in the seat of the kickers, nor mingieth
with the congregation of the mossbaeks and
chronic grumblers, for his de'ight is in new
enterprises and devising schemes to build
up his town doth he meditate both by day
and by night. He shall be like unto an
evergreen tree planted by die river of water
his loaf shall not decay nor his branches
wither, but he shall wax fat like unto a bay
fed upon the succulent grasses, and
when the day of reward cometh he “shall
there Eli,” while the kickers shall be
to outer darkness, where the
and boomer are not known and the
never advertise.—Ex.
