The survey of the Atlanta & Florida
extension between Fort Valley and the
seaport town of Brunswick, has com¬
menced. The track has been completed
to within a hnlf-tnile of Fort Yaliey.
it is said that the Company has bought
five new engines and leased a hundred
cars, and that the road will be well equip¬
ped otherwise.
'The Sew Jail.
Mr. Ed A.-tope has returned from Ver¬
mont, where frost and ,ice are becoming
common objects and has come to this hot
town to build our jail. The jail will be a
strong and well appointed structure to cost
nearly £ 4,000. There will be two iron
cages, and the apartments will he supplied
with water through pipes. A jail is much
needed as the two prisoers which the sher¬
iff has in charge must be guarded at night
and chained in the day time. The new
jail will ext very little for many years in
the way of repairs.
“tiodlcs” Of Pig*
The farmers will probably he interested
in learning how many young porkers a
wonderful breed sow belonging to Mr. Car¬
ter Morgan gave birth to. The sow brought
forth three litters of pigs, averaging 18
pigs in each litter. Thirty-nine pigs from
three times breeding is a record that is
mighty hard to beat, and a few- sows of
this kind ■■ -aid bring more pigs than
ter has oafs.

do all they can to mako the visitors enjoy
themselves, but the fact is they are no*
able and should not be exported to furnish
dinner to several hundred visitors, All
who go should carry baskets of provisions
and they will enjoy the day at Fairview.
Some goodFarias.
As ?.n example ol how the gray lands
about Knoxville may be brought up and
made to yield, ‘-be farm of Mr. B. If. Ray
is often referred to by the . people of this
community. Three or four years ago Mr.
Ray began to improve his place, and he
made money by his farm trom the first,
his plan was to do everything well, and
the result was what might have been ex¬
pected. The old shanties were tom down
and new houses have been built every year
until there is nothing needed on the place
east of town. The kinds have all been
highly manured, and drained, and good
fences—the most of them plank fences,—
put around the place. These lands are
abundantly supplied withjurining streams
and they are better drained than any oo
other plantations. Elsewhere these lands
are advartisd for sale, and if anyone wish¬
es to purchase a farm he will be suited
with one of these places.,
