It was intended <to deliver the papers at all the offices in the county on Saturday morning, but the returns have been unusually slow about .coming in and we cannot give the official report. Hereafter the Journal will make its appearance strictly on time unless prov d uitiidly hindered. From ail reports at thistime (7:15 a.rn. Saturday) the indications are that J. F. -G i ace will be elected. No reports from ,tho 3rd Gth and 7th districts have been .received, but in the other districts .Grace Jias received a majority. Niue years ago, a Airs. Manning, of Paris, 111., vowed that if her son married •a certain young lady that was objectiona ’Lle to her she would go-to bed and stay there until she died. The marriage took ■place, and the mother, true to her resolu¬ tion, never left her bed until last week, .when sire was borne to her coffin. A number of colored preachers met in New York city on .Friday night and held .a secret conference. They were most all from southern cities and there were about •twenty of them. A reporter, who man¬ aged to get into the meeting, was informed that they had met to talk about politics, .and had agreed to stump from .the pulpit ■in favor of tho republican ticket. Such blasphemy as these upstarts meditate will not be countenanced by the best people of their own race. The best colored people will not favor the desecratiou of the pulpit jn the manner which these preachers ad¬ vocate. Major McKinley, the great republican ■who made the protection speech at. the Piedmont Chautauqua on Tuesday night, slid not meet with a very high-toned re¬ ception ou his arrival in Atlanta. He was met by about three hundred colored draymen, haekmen, porters and the like, headed by a brass baud of four or five -instruments, the music of which was more dismal than tho lowing of tho hulls of Bash,an. The Major was escorted to the Kimball House by two prominent citizens, jand was afterwards shown marked atten¬ tion and distinction. A supposed thief entered the Hardwick house at Teumile on Wednesday night last but being bailed with a pistol ball, left and forgot to register. Married. On Monday at the residence of Air. C. II. Walker, Rev. Ashbel Spillers and Alisa Lillie Murchison were united m marring. Judge A. P. Spillers officiating.
