* GENERAL NEWS. Arrangements are being made for the ‘ erection of electric lights in Athens. f Numbers of peach trees are now in ftill bloom at Perry. Berry Ross was murdered'near Bronwood Saturday night by two other negroes nam ed Gus and Albert Robinson. A quarrel was the cause of the muider The American Forestry congress, upon invitation of the last legislature, will hold its annual session in Atlanta this year on ^November 29 and continuing several days. Two buzzards were caught in Albany a few days ago and sheep bells were hung to bheir necks. The fowls were turned loose, and the mythological belled buzzard may -Hot have so much to bear in future. A serious shooting affray occurred near Hampton ou Monday. Alf Starr and Isom Reid had some words concerning whose gun Would shoot strongest, and a bet was made, Reid won the gun, whereupon, Starr became enraged aud went home and •got another gun, came back where Reid was and shot him. The shot took effect in in the neck, but it is not fatal. Tenuille Enterprise: A certain wtll tkiiown drummer visited a Methodist meet¬ ing not long ago, and owing to the unusu¬ ally long service, he fell asleep. About the close of the service the preacher was mak¬ ing some proposition, and remarked that all who wished to go to heaven to stand up. All except the drummei rose from thei* seats. Then the preacher said that all who wanted to go to bell to stand up. This woke the drummer. He stood up. rubbed iiis eyes and looked around and said dircting his remarks the minister: “I did not hear what the proposition was, but it seems that you aud I are the only ones that have accepted. In about thirty days Col. Smith's rail¬ road in Oglethorpe county will be finished. It is seven miles long, and terminates at Smith's big farm where are a cotton seed oil mill, a guano factory aud other industrial enterprises.
