BE YE NOT DECEIVED.
The republicans have become desperate
■in.their endeavers to defeet the democratic
qparty. They are working up this part of
the country with the prohibition dodge,
.and it is surprising to see how many respec¬
table citizens and men of good sense too,
who arc being duped by this base scheme.
They are trying to get the people to mix
religion with politics. This is the most
-pacraligious scheme they have yet devised
and put on foot. Their pamphlets are sent
over the country admonishing Methodists,
"Baptists,Presbyterians, Catbolicsjand Epis¬
copalians to vote the prohibition ticket,
stating that the democratic party expect to
iave the revenues for government raised by
liquor tax mainly.
ed ostensibly with the purpose and intern
tion to work for prohibition and religion,
but it is published really in the interest of
the republican party. It says that the
•democrats will make the liquor taxes their
cbeif source ot revenue, and it is artfully
concealed from view that the republicans
■would do the same thing, in addtion to
-taxing provision and clothing very heavily.
Even the most prominent of the nation¬
al prohibition party acknowldge that they
will be defeated overwhelmingly in this e
ilection .The leaders of that party acknowl¬
edge that they do not even hope for suc
cess. That every vote which is cast for
Jlie prohibition candidates is equal to half
ra vote for the republicans. The Sooth has
prospered financially, morally and relig¬
iously nuder democratic adminis traiion
•while the North has lost no'hing by it.
The republican party wishes to take
jfrom ihe poor and give to the rich, which
accounts for the mortgages ou most of the
farms in the West and South. The repub
lican party put negroes to rule over us,
Duukeuness and crime were common
in the days of republican mis-rule, and
this prohibiten party, the wing of the re¬
publican party, is calculated only to bring
.about the same sad state of affairs, if it
could be strong enough".
When Satan displays his best chicanery
is in a case of this kind, where the pill
■mugt be sugareoated, where the sting of
■the serpent must be bidden in a beautiful
. flower. In this case ho says; “You are too
good a man to be following in the wicked.
Let the principle of this thing govern your
actions. Let your sense of duty impel
you to action. You must be doing some¬
thing for the Lord. It is wrong for men
sin get drunk, and Sam Small and other good
men are telling you how to stop that. It
may be ten years before the band of
Christians known as the “Third Party”
can manage the government, or it may nev
er be, which is most likely, but you can
Jive and die knowing that you was net a
fr.iid to do yoiv duty
Reason and experience teaehes us that a
big vote for the prohibition party moans
.success for the republicans : The success
the .republican party means high taxes
on the necessaries of life, which makes the
manufacturers more able to oppress the
poor. It meaiis a ''return of anotherwise
corrupt administratio. Ths republican
party is composed mainly of those who
hats the Southern peopl and do not hesi¬
tate topunish and oppress ns where it is in
their power to do so. The democratic, par¬
ty is made up of equal proportion of Nor¬
thern, Western and Southern people who
have demonstrated that they are disposed
to he just and honest in the management
of the public affairs of the nation. In no;
particular have they shown a purpose or:
intention to do or to be otherwise. Then
in the course-of time if it he proven and
shown a necessary and just to pass a na¬
tional prohibition law they would (logo.
The republicans would not do this we
know.
A Vermont man has the following post¬
ed on his field: “Tf any mans or womans
cows or oxeus gits into there here oats, h!s
or her tail will he cut off, as the case may
be. I am a Christian man and pays my
taxes; but durn a man that lets his critters
run loose-”
Every man who is true to his party, true
to his country, and rvue to his family will
come out on eicctiou day and pete. Ti. }
odds are against us, and unless every man
does his duty in the coming election he.wili
regret it for many years to corre.
Hon. James H Blount has written let¬
ters to Hon Robley D. Smith and Col. O.
T. Wright urging them to do all in their
power to arouse the democrats of the coun¬
to action. Mr Blonot 1 as no opposi¬

perate resorts the republicans have lallen
upon, and be is apprehensive of danger.
When Mr. Blount lalks this way there is
something bad the matter with the country.
