ing on the lower section of the A. & F.
railroad, was in town Sunday.

place could he rented now. Property
this kind is worth a good deal here.
Judge Giles, a prominent and well
krown lawyer of Perry, is preparing to
move here. He will continue the practice
of law at this place.
Misses Clara and Belle Gibson, who con¬
duct one of the largest and best farms in
the county, were in town looking after a
esse which they had in court.
Dr. McKown, accompanied by his wife,
came down from Jcocaboro and made our
town a short visit the first of the week.

Malliews & Danielly lost about one
hundred thousand feet of lumber by tho
fire at their sawmill Thursday night. Some
of the machipery was also destroyed.
Mr- A. F. Williams has rettrned fiom a
trip through Greene ahd Oglethorpe coun¬
ties. Mr. "Williams expresses himself as
highly pleased with the Nvav- tho people in
those counties do business. Cotton is taken
as cash by all merchants in town or coun¬
try.

Mr. W. B. White tells of a gourd vine
which is growing on the road to Hickory
Grove. He says it has run a Jong distance
up an oak tree, and 25 feet above the
ground hang among «the branches about

A Wildcat Trapped.
The Editor of this paper was presented,
a few days ago. with the foot of a swamp
cat. The cat was. trapped on Beaver
creek by Mr. Connor Regulus, and it was
said to be two feet and nine inches long,
anc\ weighing 15 pounds.
Itegulus is one of the most successful
trappers in the state. He traps all kinds
of four-footed wild animals indigenous to
this clime.

On last Saturday Mr. James Pierce,,
the upper portion of the county, in at¬
tempting to rescue a child from a mad dog,
was severely bitten on one of his-, hands.
The dog had the child down, and was try¬
ing to bite the child on the body, but the
hoy’s thick clothing prevented the dog’s
teeth fronu entering the flesh. Mr. Pierce
went to Atlanta to he treated for
phobia, almost immediately after being
bitten.

Tonight the young ladies will}escort the
young men to the leap year party at the
residence of G. W. Horttenn. There will
be ice cream and other lefresbments.
The girjs are warned to be very careful
about pepping the question-, as some of the
young men are quite -timid and might
faint—while on the other hand, there are
bachelors who wouldn’t mind jilting a girl.
