No Immigration. -
It seems just like to us that Unit-
States Commissiopier of Immi
gration Straus is trying to work some
more of his rascally trick on the
Southern states by his continuous
efforts to pour in on us ttfal undesir
able class of; immigrants which other
countries whose restriction laws ,are
inforced, do not want, and will not
accept. Now we have plenty of re
striction laws, if they were only in
forced. The present indications are j
that Straus wants the whole situation :
in his hands and mix with us a class।
of people that would eventually revo
lutionize this country. Wo have al
ready a fair sample of this undesir
able class in the larger cities and
towns, and we say if this ail they
have to give us, don’t give us any
more. We don’t need the villians
from the slums of other coutries, for
pnly, in almost every instance, it is
|he criminal classes that emigrate.
We don’t need any immigrants,
good or bad; the populations of the
Anglo-Saxon race is increasing to
guch an extent that this country will
within a few years become as Ger
many—with hardly enough land, pro
portionsd out to the. forming class,
ppon which, for each to maintain
Jiimself and family.
You talk about the idle lands of the
South! Let these lands rest. The
members of our own race will need

We; are glad to note signs of im
provement in the educational l.fe of
old wilkinson. The organization of
the County Teachers Association last
Saturday is a step in the right direc
tion. The next thing is to awaken
enthusiasm in this work that will
force our people to a realization of
the greatest interest a people can
possibly have. That of educating
the children of a community or coun
ty, Many fine things are being
planned for this year, wo propose to
start an educational campaign that
will change our whole educational
life and put it upon a higher plane,
wilkinson county is as fine county
as any county in this or any other
state, and has as fine character, but
education is lacking. Let’s all take
more interest in tie education of the
boys and gi.rls that are so soon to
take their places in the great world
of life and action.
