Perry High School honors students for their 1998-99 accomplishments By Torey Jolley Home Journal State The 1999 Perry High School Academic Awards Ceremony was held May 17 in the PHS auditorium. The evening was an event to highlight the honors and accomplishments of stu dents throughout the school year. The PHS National Honor Society hosted the event and several presenters were on hand. Entertainment was provided by two One Act Play cast members Megan Boyd and Brett Copeland. Boyd and Copeland performed the song. “Yesterday I Loved You" from Once Upon A Mattress. University of Georgia Certificate of Merit winners were Megan Carly Boyd. Kristie Louise Chester. Magdalyn Latoria Claring ton. Morris Bernard Clar ington. Ryan Dell Emerson, Christian Lianne Heller, Karen Marie Lord, Anthony Bradford Patch, Lynnell Marie Pfleegor, Bernessa Evette Rawls, Susan Faye St. Charles, LaShonda Denise Watts, and Victoria Bernadette Welling. Pre senters for this award were Cathy Fowler and Phil Smith. Boys State Post 24 win ners were John Erwin and John Hutchens, 1999 nom inees; and Jeremiah Kitchens and Jed Stewart, citizenship training. VFW Post 24 in Perry was repre sented by Walter Rembisz. Boys State Post 594 awarded Jamal Brooks. Clifton White represented VFW Post 594 in Warner Robins. Girls State winners were Magan Noel and Mary Reese. This award was pre sented by VFW Post 24 Women's Auxiliary and Ms. Penny Ingram presented. Governors' Honors Par ticipants were LaShonda Denise Watts in Mathemat ics and Feras J. Yasirv in Design. Sharon Hodge pre sented. Hugh O’Brain Youth Foundation Award was pre sented to Ronald Wayne Ragin 111. Hodge presented this award as well and noted to the audience that Ragin was selected last weekend as a Georgia Ambassador to the World Leadership Conference in Philadephia next July. Joan Dorsett presented the Novice Debate Award in honor of her late son. Rad. The award was given to Joshua Samuel Ellis. Hodge again presented awards. This time the cat egory was Houston County Youth Leadership. Winners were Karisa Lashawn Ban ister. Megan Carly Boyd, Virginia Frances Maty Brown, Taryn Nicole Burch, Magdallyn Latoria Claring ton, Ryan Dell Emerson, John Richard Erwin, Chris tian Lianne Heller, Kerri Lane Landry, Karen Marie Lord, Joshua J. Lovell, Prentice Marquez Thomas, Chutney Nicole Walton, Lashonda Denise Watts, Heather Nicole Whiddon, and Ferras J. Yasin. Lynn Asbury presented the Macon College Essay Awards. From 51 entries, two honorable mentions were won by Christian Lianne Heller and Micha Froehlich. Susan St. Charles won SSO and a plaque for third place and Ryan Emerson received SIOO and a plaque for sec ond place. Departmental Awards were given to Dustin Chad Alligood, Shea Almond, Deborah Eve Berg, Adreana Bixby, Grapham Keith Brantley. John Wood gave the wel coming speech. Presenta tion of the flags were by the PHS AFJROTC Color Guard Donna Hansen, Josh Lovell, Jimmy Jone, and Curt Fowler, under the supervision of Chief Master Sgt. (retired) Johnny Bar ton. Closing remarks were made by PHS Assistant Principal Darryl Albritton, reminding the audience “to be proud of the many accomplishments these young people made."
