Pride of the Crossroads Band takes

roads Band took first place
in the Grand Feature
parade here May 1
The parade was part of
the Shenandoah-Apple
Blossom festival. More than
30 high school bands com
peted in the regionally tele
vised parade.
Although bands came
from throughout the East
ern United States, the Pride
of the Crossroads Band
picked up a second trophy
for traveling the longest
distance to the event.
The competition was part
of a four-day trip which
120 band members and 35
chaperones made.
As part of their visit to
Washington, D.C., bands
men participated in a
wreath-laying ceremony at
the Tomb of the Unknown
Soldier at Arlington Nation

April 30 after the band
traveled all night from
Perry to arrive in Washing
ton early in the morning.
Band members Cassidy
Rawls and Kit Kitchens
joined PHS principal Phil
Smith as representatives of
the school in the ceremony.
“This was one of the
highlights of my life,"
Kitchens said. “Seeing a
ceremony like that really
makes you appreciate the
veterans who gave their
lives for my freedom."
Band members also
toured the FBI building and
other attractions.
The trip was a highlight
for a very busy year for the
Pride of the Crossroads
Band.
“Our students work very
hard and deserve the atten
tion of a trip such as this,"
said director Joe Hutche
son.
“We work hard all year,
year share about the ser
vice. He makes flights when
he is needed.
Angel Flight Georgia is
located at Peachtree
DeKalb Airport and is
strictly voluntary. Angel
Flight Southeast in Florida
does have a paid executive
director and a paid flight
coordinator.
Lambert told the Kiwani
ans there is never a charge
for services. More than 600
volunteer pilots, copilots
and 250 ground volunteers
(“Earth Angels") facilitate
health care access for hun
dreds of people each year.
Member pilots donate the
use of their planes, their
time and substantial oper
ating costs, Lambert said.
Angel Flight offers sever
al services including:
V Red Eye. flying trans
plant patients for lifesaving
operations.
V Child Lift operated with
Shands Hospital at
Gainesville, Fla.
V Transportation for chil
dren suffering from CLA, a
neuromuscular disease
with no cure.
V Save Haven which pro
vides immediate trans-
