Variety of events to watch, and in which to compete, will be offered
Southern Hitching and Driving Days
to take place Memorial weekend

Tammy and Bob Welliver of £lko are
coordinating plans for the “Great Southern
Hitching and Driving Days”, a Memorial
Day weekend event which will take place in
Hawkinsville.
According to Tammy Welliver, “Hundreds
of onlookers and horse-drawn enthusiasts
will share in the excitement of a weekend
filled with family fun. horses, mules, car
riages, wagons and farm implements of
yesteryear from all over the southeast and
beyond.”
Among the activities for the May 29-30
event are carriage rides for all ages, the
“Hitching and Driving Days Pleasure
Parade”, 25 competitive events, profession
al photography, driving lessons, demon
strations of draft horses, driving horses,
mules and driving goats, and much more.
“There will be trained driving animals
and vehicles provided for spectators to

Activities May 29 will include a 3 p.m.
Pleasure Parade with ribbons and prizes in
a variety of categories. Welliver said more
than 200 ribbons and awards will be pre
sented during the weekend.
Events May 30 will include competition
events with categories from ponies to mam
moth draft horses and mules, she said.
General admission will be $3 for adults
and $l for children. The event will take
place along U.S. 129, about one mile south
of Hawkinsville at the Harness Horse
Training Facility. Activities begin at 9 a.m.

tion May 14-16. The con
