Obituaries Lillian L. McClung Lillian L. McClung of Pineview died May 19, 1999. Graveside funeral services were held at the Pulaski-Bleckley Memorial Gardens, with the Rev. Winfred D. Huff officiating. Born in Hockerville, Okla., she had made her home in middle Georgia for 36 years. She was a charter member of the Grovania New Testament Church, where she had taught Sunday School. Survivors include her husband, the Rev. John W. McClung of Pienview, a daughter and son-lin-law, Tommie and Ken Fowler of Hawkinsville, a son. David Forehand of Hayneville; three stepdaughters, Maiy Monk of Cottonwood, Ala.; Pat Texler of San Diego, Calif., and Wanda Limper of Ulysses, Kan.; four grand children and three great grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Central Ga. Chapter, 301 Mulberry St., Mcon, Ga. 31201. Clark Funeral Home in Hawkinsville had charge of arrangements. Robert Burton Norton Robert Burton Norton. 82, founder of Norton and Steely Wholesale Grocery and resident of North Hardin Drive, Columbia, Tenn., died May 22, 1999. Funeral services were held May 24 at the First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Mke Dawson officiat ing. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery. A native of Coffee County, Mr. Norton served in the U.S. Army during World War 11. James Barrett Jr. James Barrett Jr. of Houston, Texas, died April 23. 1999. Funeral services were held in the New Hope Baptist Church on May 21. A native of Peach County, Mr. Barrett attended Peach County public schools. Survivors include his son, Rodney Barrett of Coco Beach, Fla.; sisters and brother, Rosa Barrett, Earnestine Barrett and Milton Barrett, all of Perry. Bobby E. Glover Mortuary had charge of arrangements. Charles Hubbard Amberg Chrles Hubbard Amberg, the McGill Hall for dinner and entertainment. The Perry High School Metal Band and the Bonaire Middle School Jaguar Jazz Band performed. In addi tion, to the dinner and entertainment, years of ser vice pins were distibuted. Graveside services are planned for May 28 at 1 p.m. in the Hubbard Cemetery, Hickman. Ky. Bom in Hickman, Mr. Amberg had lived in Perry for three years, after mov ing here from Tampa, Fla. He was a World War II Army veteran, a retired self employed grain dealer, a member of the AARP, the American Legion and the VFW. He was a Baptist. He is survived by his wife, Juanita Van Cleave Amberg of Perry, two daughters, Judith Amberg Vlaney of Perry, Linda A. Beaman of Sebring, Fla., and Brantley Amberg of Bessemer, Ala.; a son, Charles Boardman Amberg of Lakeland, Fla.; a brother. Brantley Amberg of Hickman, seven grandchil dren and seven great grandchildren. Watson-Hunt Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. . Harry Amond Berry Harry Amond Berry, 78, of 1107 Second Street, Perry, died May 16, 1999, at the Perry Hospital. Graveside services were held May 19 at the Evergreen Cemetery, with the Rev. Dr. Gene Bowman officiating. Bom in Houston County, Mr. Berry had lived here for the last 10 years. He was a former resident of Miami and also lived on the Intercoastal Waterway. He was a World War II Veteran. He was an entrepreneur, instrumental in the promo tion of the Hula Hoop craze, and was also former busi ness manager for Johnny Weismuller and Rocky Marciano. He was a former for a job well done —an opportunity to show how much we appreciate every one." Burris noted that the event was “entirely funded by donations." She men tioned donations were obtained from Cagle’s Inc., Georgia National Fairgrounds and Agricenter, Alltel. Dr. and Mrs. Ben Lowery, and Stokes Shaheen. Mrs. Smith was a native of Berrien County, and the widow of the late Cecil D. Smith. Survivors include four daughters, Clara Youghn and Linda Johnson, both Douglas, Carlene Day of Mcßae and Sue Wood of Kathleen; three sons, Charles Smith of Brunswick, Carroll Smith of Ocilla, and Jack Smith of Perry; two sisters, Nora Lee Gigilo of Chiefland, Fla., and Josephine Smith of Lakeland, Fla.; two brothers, Andrew Wells of Kathleen, Fla., and Gene Wells of Lakeland, Fla.; 14 grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, one great great-grandchild and sev eral nieces and nephews.
