Hot dog lunch caps Sports Week at Tucker

Alltel continues to cling
to first place in the Perry
Junior League Major
League for 11-12 boys at
Ochlahatchee.
Alltel has a 5-1 record for
the second half. Leading
the team is pitcher Josh
O’Neal with a 5-2 record for
the season.
Jordy Stokes of Alltel

with 6 for the year.

Basketball camp is June 14-16

before Coach Max Vickers
gets back to work.
Vickers, Perry High
School head girls basketball
coach, will be heading up a
basketball camp for young
women ages 12-14.
Vickers will be assisted
by Coach Leslie Belcher,
from Perry Middle and
Coach Christi Horsting,
who will be coming aboard
the Perry High coaching
staff as Girls softball coach.

is to teach basketball skills
and fundamentals and to
help the young ladies learn
to develop their skills.
Vickers emphasized that
the campers will also learn
about fair play and good
sportsmanship.
The camp will be held
June 14-16 at the Perry
High School Gym and the
deadline to register is June
11.

and then watched their
children perform in seven

Bruce Vance was the
winning pitcher. He gave
up five hits and four earned
runs while recording 11
strike outs during the six
innings he pitched. Vance
also helped his cause with
a single and a 3-run home
run.
Daniel Clay of Tolleson
had a single, a double and
2 RBI while Daniel Bledsoe
had a double and scored
twice.

enjoy all of their exposure
to the different sports dur
ing Sports Week. It was
obvious to those in atten
dance the first grade class
paid close attention to the
coaches leading each day’s
activities and tried to soak
up as much knowledge as
possible.
It was not uncommon to
hear “I want to do that
when I get big" during the
week. Hayes reported.
One of the highlights for
the children each day dur
ing Sportsweek was watch
ing their teacher take a
turn at shooting • goals or
hitting a baseball. The chil
dren shouted with joy
regardless of their
teacher's performance.
The first grade teachers
were assisted during
Sports Week by volunteer
coaches from Perry High
and Perry Middle and also
high school players from
the various sports.
On Sports Day, several
fifth graders were rewarded
by being allowed to be
“helpers" for the afternoon
and assist the younger stu
dents.
Ryan Crum led Alltel
with a double and 2 RBI.
Stephen James had a dou
ble, an RBI and a run
scored.
In the second game,
Baxter CPA downed MMM.
CPA in a battle of the CPA
sponsored teams, 6-5.
Baxter got two singles
and three runs scored from
Mitchell Fowler. Dean
Brannon had two singles
and a run scored.
For MMM, Daniel Peake
had a single and a 2-run
home run. Jeff Barfield had
a single, 2 RBI and a run
scored. Timmy McCoy had
three singles.
