The wedding is planned for 1 p.m., July 17. at New Covenant Church of God in Perry. The bride-elect is the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Henry Sr. and the late Mr. and Mrs. Levi Wid ner of Colquitt. She is a graduate of Perry High school and Middle Georgia Techni cal Institute. She is employed by ATS staffing as an licensed practical nurse. The groom-elect is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Julius Graham of Warner Robins and the late Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Wilbanks of Monroe. He is a graduate of Warner Robins High School, and is employed by Paragon Trade Brands in Macon. Perry Continued from page IB leaving PHS and they were honored with gifts and words of praise. Smith told them they impacted the students lives greatly and in great ways. Smith awarded Julia Rogers with the PHS Teacher of the Year hward. Rogers, a special education instructor, was chosen by secret ballot by all faculty. Rogers with tears in her eyes said, “Thank you all for this award. It is a plea sure to work with each of you." Smith honored the teachers with years of ser vice pins. The pins were in honor of their service rang ing in five years to 30-plus years. She did not know she was there to be honored. Rogers, a special educa tion teacher, was voted Teacher of the Year by her fellow faculty members. “I told everyone special education teachers never get Teacher of the Year," said an obviously surprised Rogers. Rogers admitted she “came into teaching late." However, she loves her job, “I come to work each day and am impressed I get paid for doing something I . epjcgr/so much." , | Rogers has been with Perry High for a couple of years. She believes she has made a difference in many of her students’ lives. Rogers said one of her past students is almost ready to graduate from Macon Tech nical Institute. “I’m so proud of him," said Rogers, adding, that she “starts brand new each day, offering love and respect." The toughest part of teaching special education is motivating the students. “They have failed so often in the past and they hate try ing something new because of it. However, when they do and succeed, it is great,” Rogers said. She taught at Towns County high school, Hiawassee and at Pulaski County Middle School in Hawkinsville before coming to Perry High. She has been married for five years to Walter Rogers. They live in Byron. Togeth er they have three children: Amy Smith of Valdosta, Marc Blankenship of Leslie, and LaDonna Roberts of Ray City, and two grand children: Emily and Tyler Smith. “My husband is so spe cial. He frees me up to be able to teach,” explained Rogers, who works more than 14 hours per day. Acton and Brookshire plan vows Dave and Avis Acton of Cheyenne, Wyo., annoimce the engagement of their daughter, Kimm Marlene Acton, to Kevin F. Brookshire of Cheyenne, son of George and Georgia Ann Frank of Kathleen. The wedding will take place Sept. 11, 1999, at the First Presbyterian Church of Cheyenne. The bride-elect is the granddaughter of the late Charlie and Alice Houston of Colorado and the late Roy and Ethel Acton of Cheyenne. She is a graduate of East High school, and holds a bachelor's degree in busi ness administration from the University of Wyoming. She is payroll supervisor for the Wyoming Trans portation Department. The groom-elect is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Leon Colquitt Watson Sr. of Kathleen, and the late Mr. and Mrs. Albert Brookshire of Cartersville.
