Lifestyle Florida sign reads: ‘LITTERING IS unIAWFUL’ I like this sign we saw recently beside the high way in Florida. I also like the new vacuum for litter the city of Warner Robins has purchased. 1 wish we did not need such signs and machines. I wish everyone would just stop littering. But until they do. I wish the young people in Perry would take it upon themselves to tidy up our town. Summertime, when the livin’ is easy and we’ve spare time on our hands, is a good time for us all to look arour A and pick up. • •• Monday afternoon 1 came upon an accident which had just occurred at the intersection of Kings Chapel Road and Keith Drive. I think of young Tommy Nipper every time I stop there anyway. But this day I spoke of him to the young couple who seemed shaken but OK. t just goes to show how dangerous that two-way stop is. Folks on Keith Drive need to look both ways and then look both ways again at that particu lar intersection. Powers that be, please make it a four-way stop before we have another death. • •• Congratulations to Andy Flowers and Robbie McAnally who were pic tured in Business Plus in the Macon Telegraph June 28 .They have been promot ed by Sun Trust Bank, Mid dle Georgia Andy to senior vice president, com munity banking manager responsible for supervising the retail operations of all branches in Macon and Warner Robins and Robbie to assistant vice president and manager of the Pio Nono Avenue office. Andy resides in Kings Crest with Elizabeth, Lau ren and Claire and owns, with Elizabeth, Impres sions downtown. Robbie is our Ridgewood Park neigh bor along with Rudy and son Lane who is working with Ace Hardware this summer before he contin ues his education at Clem son University. Robbie serves on the finance com mittee of First Baptist Church Perry. • •• Former Perryan and Miss Georgia 1987-88 Kelly Jerles of Nashville, Tenn. was one of the judges for the 1999 Miss Georgia Pageant held last week in Columbus. She paid a visit to her parents. Dr. Bill and Peggy Jerles, before return ing to Nashville Tuesday. • •• Alice Jane Street and Alice Jr. visited Gil and Ashley Harvard and their daughters Hayden and Emily in Columbus last weekend. They attended the Miss Georgia Pageant, enjoyed Kelly Jerles’ rendi tion of The National Anthem, and managed to send a note of support backstage to their friend, Miss Georgia Southern University Katie Stephens. • •• Bob and Kollyn Rooks Lawson have been honey mooning on the Hawaiian islands of Maui and Kauai. Their June 19 formal wed ding at Perry First Baptist Church was followed by a reception and dance to the .music of The Sensations at Houston Lake Country Club. Corey, 12, played for ALLTEL which beat Tolleson Supply two straight in a three game series to win the League Championship. Evan, 9. played for Beck ham Brothers and Carrine, 7, played for ALLTEL. Lee of Jones Surveying & Engineering Inc. and Karen who is a paraprofessional at Morningside Elementary will be busy transporting their kids to and from their Kings Crest home to all star games in Butler, Roberta and Macon possi bly into August. • •• Van and Mitzi Sexton attended the annual get together last weekend with their classmates of 1951 in Creswell, N.C. They returned with their twin grandsons, Adam and Jamie of Richmond, Va., for a week of fun in Perry with them and their uncle Jeff Sexton. • •• . ~ David Phelps and Dr. Harold Hickam along with three laymen from Baxley and one from North Caroli na have made a mission trip to Reynosa, Mexico. They stayed in the home of the husband and wife preachers of the Mexican church, Daniel and Adami na Guerra. This was David’s seventh trip there. Services were held four nights in the new church building which they helped finance. They also held a Saturday afternoon service in a children’s prison and fed them supper they wouldn’t have otherwise had. David sends Bibles for the children. Dr. Hickam, Perry ortho dontist during the week and Duluth resident with his Atlanta CPA wife on weekends, is a member of David’s prayer group which meets at 6:30 a.m. each Tuesday morning at Shon ey’s back room. David and Alice’s daugh ter Amy is at home with them this summer while she teaches two classes of summer school English at Houston County High School and attends classes toward her Master’s degree at Mercer University. She and Jonathan Fouse of Macon who is with Geico are also making plans for their Oct. 9 wedding. • •• Fred and Nannie Laura Fudge arrived back home from a trip to Appleton, Wise., just in time to spend their 57th wedding anniversary June 22 in Perry. He was married to the late Evelyn Heller, who was a bookkeeper for Joe and Connette Gayle’s antiques store.
