Visitin’ grandsons, Christopher 15 and Jonathon 13, visiting them on Pine Needle Drive. The boys flew here for the first time by themselves while their parents are completing and moving into their retirement home in Colorado Springs near the Air Force Academy. The boys’ parents are Lt. Col. Leslie J. Cox. Westfield Schools and University of Georgia graduate, and Arlene. Leslie is assigned to North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) in the Cheyenne Mountains. • •• Jim and Nancy Thoma son celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a family reunion hosted by their daughter Susan and Kerry Mortensen at their home in Franklin, Tenn. Four of their six children and six of their 12 grand children were there for a long weekend of talking, swimming, watching home videos, shopping and lots of eating. Present were the Mortensens’ sons, Kerry and his wife Sue who live in Brooklyn. N.Y., and Matthew who is a sopho more music major at the University of Georgia; the Thomasons’ daughters Jill Smith of Perry and three of her children, Stephen, Hannah and Chelsea (Rachel and Sam could not be there due to All-Star tournament softball and baseball games in Georgia. Hannah was also on an All- Star team, but her games were played before the reunion.), and Elizabeth and Steve Schotta with their son, two-year-old Stephen of Appleton, Wise.; and their son Jim Thoma son from Atlanta. The highlight of the weekend was the presenta tion of a memory book that had been prepared by Susan using stories written by family members telling what they recalled from their growing-up days with the family. Each one read aloud what they had writ ten which brought a lot of laughs and a few tears, all being captured on video tape. Jim and Nancy report they miss Perry friends and family but really love being in Clearwater. They have Joined Friendship United Methodist Church which they report truly lives up to its name. • •• Below is the Georgia Cooking recipe which appears on Page 5 of the July 21 issue of Farmers and Consumers Market Bul letin of the Georgia Depart ment of Agriculture. Every week this little paper arrives by mail to Ralph and every week I look to see the recipe. Often I tear it out. Ralph sometimes checks CITY OF PERRY PUBLIC HEARING NOTICE The City of Perry is considering applying to the Georgia Department of Community Affairs for an Employee Incentive Program Grant of up to SSOO,(XX). These funds must general ly be used for the following purposes. 1. To benefit low and moderate income persons; or 2. To aid in the prevention or elimination of slums or blight; or 3. To meet other community development needs having a particular urgency because existing conditions pose a serio ous and immediate threat to the health or welfare of the community where other financial resources are not avail able to meet such needs. The applicant must certify and the Geogia DCA must concur that such conditions exist. These activities for which these EIP funds may be used are in the area of economic development. More specific details regarding eligible activities, plans to assist displaced persona nd the estimated amount of funds proposed to be used for activities to benefit low and moderate income persons, and the rating system will be provided at a public hearing which wil be held at The City of Perry, City Hall, 1211 Washington Street, Perry GA 31069 on August 16, 1999 at 4:00 p.m. The purpose of this hearing will be to inform citizens regard ing the development of the application. Yummy Stuffed Shells with Beef, Cheese and Spinach 1 package jumbo pasta shells, cooked according to package directions 1 pound ground beef (lean) 1/2 cup green peppers, chopped fine 1/2 cup of Vidalia onion, chopped fine 1/2 package, spinach, fine ly chopped and cooked Salt, to taste 2 1/2 cups Monterey jack cheese, shredded 1/2 cup cheddar cheese, shredded 2 eggs, slightly beaten 1/2 cup breadcrumbs (fine and seasoned) 1 tablespoon of parsley flakes 2 teaspoon oregano 1 /2 teaspoon garlic salt 3-4 cups Marinara sauce Spray a 13x9-inch casse role dish. Cook shells according to directions in salted water. Drain pasta and set aside. Saute ground beef, pep pers and onions until gold en brown. Photo by Tally Mims In a bowl, combine spinach, cheeses, eggs, breadcrumbs, - parsley flakes, oregano and garlic salt. Fill each shell with a tablespoon of beef mixture. Spread 1/2 cup of Mari nara sauce in the bottom of the 13x9-inch sprayed dish. Make a single layer of shells into dish. Pour on remaining sauce and spread evenly. Top with remaining shells and finish with the Marinara sauce. Cover with aluminum foil and cook for 35-45 min utes. Top shells with ched dar cheese, return to the oven and allow the cheese to melt (only until melted, do not overcook). Remove from oven and let stand 5 minutes. Shells should be bubbly and hot.
