Teachers get welcome back via video tape By Torey Jolley Home Joukhal Swf It was a different kind of welcome back to school for the teachers in Houston County this year. No driving to an arrange place. No gath ering of system employees to hear the speeches. The Houston County School Board presented their welcoming by video tape. The program was .filmed by Cox Communica tions. According to Houston County School Superinten dent Charles Holloway, the reasons lor the change were to allow teachers more time in their classrooms and “because the Coachman RVs bumped us" from the Geor gia National Fairgrounds and Agricenter. The technolog}' twist was right on target with the school system’s new com mitment in preparing for the future. Teachers will be involved with technology more and more. “We have 60 teachers sta tions ready and will be ordering more. Our goal is to have a station for each teacher," said Holloway. .Already the teachers have received computer training this summer and the Board of Education has set the goal of additional computer train ing for the teachers as well. Guest speaker was Steve Moroski, an avid marathon runner, skydiver, and moti vational speaker. Moroski stressed it takes heart to do anything. He asked how many negative thoughts can you afford Reframing is the answer to negative thoughts. Refraining is a series of five questions a person needs to ask when faced with a negative feeling. The questions are • What is great about this, or how can I use this? • What I do not like about it now? • How do I want this to turn out? • What am 1 willing to do about it? • How can 1 enjoy doing it? Holloway ended the taped program by telling the edu cators that "it is time to roll up our shirt sleeves and get busy."
