Visitin’ computer/marketing position with Catalina Co. based out of Atlanta. He services 100 grocery stores in his southeast region. Proud parents of this young couple are Dorsey and Pat Dent and Retired Col. Dave and Jane Benton of North Carolina. Meanwhile Len and Pam Dickerson have moved into their new home in Lea Glen. • •• Aug. 11 was the 80th birthday for Richard Johnson but he had to patiently wait 'til Aug. 14 for the birthday celebration planned by his daughters Martha Johnson of Auburn, Ala. and Nelda Clay to take place. From all accounts, it was well worth the wait! About 90 relatives and friends from as far away as California, Arizona, Tennessee, Florida and Alabama and as nearby as Perry gathered underneath a striped tent in the backyard of the Johnson country home for a barbecue supper. It was topped off with homemade peach ice cream and birth day cake. Richard and Ruth were married 58 years in April, and Nelda and Martha were delighted to be able to celebrate this occa sion with them. • •• Jeanna Bishop and Lee Smallwood are being feted by a round of parties prior to their wedding which is set for Sept. 25 at Perry United Methodist Church. They were honored with a casual supper and handy man shower Aug. 13 at Perry Country Club. Daisies in a tin pitcher adorned the pic nic buffet table as did white candles in hur ricane lamps surrounded by ivy the white clothed tables for dining. The yellow and white summertime color scheme was just the right setting for displaying the gifts for the handyman and his bride-to-be. Hosts presenting Jeanna and Lee with a wheelbarrow were: Jean and Ronny Ben nett, Janice and Danny Bledsoe, Nelda and Harold Clay, Terry and Jackie Cooper, Martha and Rick Davis, Brenda and Lee Duke, Tina Hunter, Candy and Billy Ray Kitchens, Sue and Doug Lott. The ladies sampled different flavored teas and munched on an assortment of sweets including a delicious hummingbird cake baked by incoming President. Nicola Long. Most of the guests are new to the Perry area. It was obvious to all what fun it is to create new friendships with those who share the common bond of being “newcom ers." It helps to have someone to turn to when getting acclimated to a new town. Anyone interested in receiving informa tion about the Perry Newcomer’s Sept. 14 meeting should contact Hollie Adcock at 988-4242 or Nicola Long at 988-4312. Thanks to Newcomer Joy Simmons for taking notes and sharing the following recipe: Almond-Lemonade Tea (August 1999 Southern Living) 4 cups brewed tea, chilled 3 cups cold water 1 6 oz. can frozen lemonade concentrate, thawed 1 /4 cup sugar 1 teaspoon almond extract Stir together all ingredients in a large pitcher until sugar dissolves.
