Religion Perry Presbyterians gain new sanctuary, new pastor Church ties past and future with worship in new sanctuary located by historical old building By CHARLOTTE PERKINS Home Journal Statt Perry Presbyterian Church has deep roots in the past and big plans for the future. "This is a church with a vision for growth," said the Rev. Bob VVojohn, who has been at Perry Presbyterian since March. One clear sign of that vision is the church's brand new sanctuary, which has twice the seating capacity of the old sanctuary and New Presbyterian minister set out to be veterinarian By CHARLOTTE PERKINS Home Journal Staff the" Rev. Auburn graduate and father of five, is happy to be in Perry and to be at Perry Presbyterian. “We absolutely love it here in Perry," he said. “I feel that the Lord called me here. This is a church with a vision for growth, com mitted to helping people grow in a deeper relation ship with Jesus Christ and proclaim the Gospel." Wojohn credits the elders of t he church with planning for the future and also notes that his predecessor Jim Shiplev. "did a wonder ful job here as pastor. The chu:eh. he said, “has a great cross-section of ages, with long-standing members and new mem bers as well." The new sanctuary, brightened by large clear glass windows, carpeted in deep burgundy and painted a soft gray with white trim, was ready for use early this week, awaiting only the pulpit and pulpit furnish ings from the old sanctu ary. The new building, linked to the old by a covered walkway, carries over the traditional architecture of the historic church. According to Building Com mittee Co-chairman Bo Arnall, care was taken to find brick of the same color as the older building. The new building, built by Warren Scott of Ameri cus, includes not only the spacious sanctuary, but also a suite of offices for the minister and staff and a meeting room. While the congregation will begin using the new sanctuary this Sunday, the big event will be next month, Wojohn said. A dedication service is planned for 5 p.m.. Sept. 26, starting at 5:30, with former pastors of the church and many friends of the congregation on hand to share in the celebration. Among those with the most to celebrate will be the church’s hardworking building committee: pated in many Lay Witness Mission weekends. In addi tion, Smith has traveled to Brazil with Rick Bonfim Ministries, actively involved with the Emmaus Walks, and returned from Israel. Smith claims the heart of her ministry is to touch wounded, hurting people for Jesus Christ. A time of personal ministry will fol low the meeting. Refreshments will be served.
