Lifestyle Morningside PTO first with chicken barbecue Tickets go on sale today tor a Barbecue Chicken Dinner sponsored by the PTO of Morningside Ele mentary School. Pick up plates Sept. 2. 4:30 to 7 p.m. at the school. Plates will include half chicken, baked potato, green beans, roll and cake for $5. Please purchase your tickets by Aug. 27 at the school office or call PTO President Angela Lineberg er at 987-5576. Proceeds from the dinner will go for equipment and supplies for the school. • •• Co-presidents of the Perry Primary School PTO Angela Lineberger and Vicki Touchton announce the first fund-raiser for the new school. Monetary donations are requested for playground equipment for the Pre K. Kindergarten and First Grade classes from parents, businesses, friends, clubs, civic groups, anyone willing to help. They’re starting out with only a couple of Pre-K play pieces from the elementary schools. ••• Oct. 1, Perry High School will honor their 1959 foot ball team for having won the Region 2B Champi onship 40 years ago. Their record was 9-3-1 under Head Coach Herb St. John including a win over Warn er Robins 26-7. A reception will be held at 6:30 p.m. in the PHS lunchroom. During half time of the game with the Jackson High Red Devils, all team members and coaches will be recognized on the field as the only Perry High football team to ever win a region football championship. All the players, coaches and manager are being mailed an invitation this week. There were only three players whose addresses could not be found: Don Baker. Lariy Edwards and John Whit worth. Anyone who knows the w’hereabouts of these men, please call Dicky Erwin 988-6314 (school) or 987-0530 (home). It’s important to reach all members of this team. Sincere sympathy to Louise Lawson upon the death of her sister, Jennie B. Shofner of Marietta, Aug. 8. • •• A few good groups are needed to join the 10th annual Georgia National Fair/Farm * City Days Parade Oct. 9. The theme is “A Perfect Ten”. The parade will line up at 9 a.m. along Washington Street in front of the Library and City Hall. Start time is 10 a.m. and the parade will go to the Agri center by way of Carroll Street and Courtney Hodges Boulevard. Call Bill Hailey of the sponsoring Perry Kiwanis Club at 988-2753 for details and to record your entry. But remember no children in the back of pick-up trucks on trail ers is OK. Join the fun and help celebrate the opening of the tenth annual Georgia National Fair. • •• Welcome back to Perry. Joe and Shirley Davis. After living 11 years in Jesup they have purchased the Milton Beckham home on Main Street. Joe is still managing Atlantic Oil and Gas and Shirley has resumed her job with the Sports Center. Especially happy to have the Davises in Perry again are daughter r><' f b and Buddy Roper and grand children Brent and Becca. Brent is a freshman at Truett-McConnell College at Watkinsville and Becca is in the eighth grade at The Westfield Schools. Just Visitin' Joan Dorset* 987-1823 Their other daughter Susan Miller lives at Clear water and their son Matt and his family live in San Francisco. Meanwhile Alma Beck ham has purchased the Akin home next door in a move to downsize both house and yard. • •• 1 'Jmt l ' *** Who is this man? This photo was recently found by volunteer Betty Bowman in a donated book at the library of the Preg nancy Care Center of Perry, 1104 Meeting St. Donated books are wel comed but the growing library is also being stocked with reading rial which will benefit trou bled girls in crisis. Since its beginning in March of '93, the Pregnan cy Care Center, affiliated with national CARENET, has helped hundreds of girls in all of Houston County and surrounding counties. Volunteer Annette John son is interim executive director and the hours of operation are Tuesday 11 to 5 and Thursday 1 to 5 and are to be expanded soon. Volunteer counselors are needed and are given CARENET approved train ing. • •• Sincere sympathy to Allen and Anna Pritchett upon the death of her brother, Sam Sells Jr. of Moultrie. Aug. 10. • •• Don and Jo Crumpaeker were among Edward Jones investment representatives and spouses who toured London recently. They saw the play Les Miserables, visited William Shake speare's home Stratford on Avon and Greenwich which is located on the prime meridian used as the basis for standard time through out most of the world. A huge celebration of the mil lennium will be held there. • •• Alice Jane Street recent ly attended Alumni Week end at her alma mater. Young Harris College. • •• Congratulations to Amy Carlton and Michael Jolley who became engaged Aug. 15. The Georgia Southern University student and Bell South Macon employee who is the son of our own Torey Jolley have set their wedding date for Sept. 16. 2000. • •• Chris and Tammy Kothe have purchased the Dick erson home on Ridge Circle South in Ridgewood Park and settled in over the past weekend.
