Members of 1959 region champ football team at PHS to be honored Oct. 1 Special to the Home Journal On Oct. 1, members of the 1959 Perry High foot ball team will be honored with a 6:30 p.m. reception before the Perry-Jackson game, and will also be rec ognized at halftime. Efforts are being made to reach as many of the team members as possible. The 1959 team remains the only Perry High team to win a region football cham pionship. This year is the 40th anniversary of that victory. They won the Region 2B title by defeating Emmanuel County Insti tute. 28-27. Later the Pan thers lost to Brooks County Bank of America team captures annual Chamber golf tourney Special to the Homz Journal The bank of America team of Jay Jones, Alvin Chapman, Milton Wynn and David Hall took first place during the Sept. 9 Perry Area Chamber of Commerce golf tourna ment. The four were among the 18 teams competing during the fund-raising tourna ment, according to cham ber officials. Played at Perry Country Club, the tournament raised more than $4,000 to fund chamber activities and events. second place m tne event belonged to the team of Steve Rodgers, Snyder Chapman, Jimmy Fair cloth and Bruce Goddard, sponsored by Chapman and Rodgers, CPAs Bevin Green, Ley Pick ens, Larry Johnson and Ray Wells, playing under the Super Sod banner, fin ished third. He will discuss the upcoming plans for the school year as well as the new academic pro grams at the school.
