They were greatly appreci ated by the Hurricane Floyd evacuee children for recreation at the Agricen ter. • •• Maijilu Mims found a very nice article about Hen derson Village “It Makes A Village” in the October issue of House Beautiful magazine. Sherry Staples Hubbard's daughter, Caro line Hubbard, who writes for Atlanta Business Maga zine, also wrote about Hen derson Village for the July 18 Chattanooga Free Press Travel section following their summer visit. It's on my desk if you come into the Home Journal. • •• David and Donna Kennedy recently vaca tioned at The Greenbrier at White Sulphur Springs, W.V. Besides golf, David ana the other vice-presi dents of sales for South down and their customers from Atlanta, Tennessee and Alabama enjoyed won derful food three nights in three different restaurants. Donna attended the Sam Snead Golf Academy. Meanwhile, some guests played tennis and several enjoyed the spa experience. Particularly interesting was touring the “Greek Island" bunker built in 1959-61 to secretly relocate Congress in the event of a nuclear war. Turned over to The Greenbrier in 1992 by the Government, it is now open to tours. • •• Michael and Rita Riley recently purchased the Warlick home on Ridge Cir cle South. They are Civil Service employees who transferred from Defense Reutilization and Market ing Service Headquarters, which sells excess govern ment property, at Battle Creek. Mich,, to the local office at Robins Air Force Base. Mike Riley is a junior at Perry High School where Francesca is a member of the sophomore class. Meanwhile long time Ridge Circle South resident John Warlick and his fami ly, Donna, Allie and Abbie, have purchased a home in Southfield Plantation near Bonaire Elementary where Donna teaches. John com mutes to coach at Perry Middle School. • •• Wednesday Afternoon Book Club members began a new club year Sept. 15 at the Windsor Road home of Polly Mohr with Hilda Walker as co-hostess. Lovely refreshments were followed by an overview of the yearbook which schedules book reviews by members and special events for Christ mas and spring and a pre summer picnic. Marie Marshall reviewed the book, “Ruth, A Por trait", by Patricia Cornwell who is a personal friend of Ruth Graham and knew both Ruth and Dr. Billy Graham's families. Cornwell is a famous and very successful writer of mysteries. She depicts Ruth as the kind of wife who had to do everything by herself because Dr. Gra ham was away so much. She loved a man who need ed her and lives were changed. While he was away saving souls, she was saving souls at home. • •• Tom Thomson and Billie Sue’s brother Dr. Bob Beard of Savannah and Dr. Wayne Bohanan and Char lotte’s nephew Billy Grant of Houston have just returned from an interest ing trip to Alaska. Bob had been several times and knew just the things to see and do. In Fairbanks they visited the University of Alaska and the University Museum and research farms of the University where research is done on caribou and musk ox. They spent two days trav eling by Denali National Park bus ride through the park, one day the full 90 miles and the second a 50- mile trip. It was a wonderful thrill that it was clear and they could always see Mt. McKinley. They saw many bears, caribou and moose and a wolf. At Anchorage they went by small plane to Kings Salmon and by float plane to Katmia for three nights at Brooks Camp. There they got to see grizzly bears catching salmon in the streams just the way it’s shown on educational tele vision. • •• Help the new Perry Pri mary School furnish a play ground for its kindergarten and first grade students. Patronize the Perry Chic-fil- Review This is important because unlike the imaginary radio audience - the audience at this play has a chance to watch all kinds of interactions and emotions unfold ing in the background while musical numbers from “Kalamazoo" to “I’ll be Seeing You" are presented. Thanks to Strandburg's skilled direc tion, this is never a distraction. It just makes the whole experience richer, and more fun to talk about afterwards. And now for the music! You’ll hear plen ty of hit songs of the forties including “Ain’t She Sweet?" “Our Love is Here to Stay," “Black Magic.” and the old Andrews Sisters’ hit, “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy." Couple all this with singing commercials, some stand-up comedy and even a dra matic presentation complete with on-stage sound effects. And best of all, you’ll see some unfor gettable talent. Matt Pate is wonderful as the disillusioned crooner, "Johnny Can tone” who manages to wow audiences despite a cigarette in one hand and a drink in the other. Dianne Scruggs sings the blues beautifully. D. Shawn Kitrell is hilarious as Neal Tilden. and has some good opportunities to demonstrate his gift for comedy, but keep your eye on him when he believes he's lost the chance to be the show’s fea tured tenor, because some of the best per forming in this play is done without a word. Natalie Andrews, a tiny brunette who is only a junior in high school, is a delightful liveware in the ingenue role of “Connie Miller.: She joins Mark Strandburg, “B.J. Gibson,” in stealing the show several 10th Anniversary X Georgia National Fair rlt October 8-17 • Perry, GA ON SALE TODAY! Shanelle Bobo, as Ginger Brooks, demonstrates a real gift for gum-popping comedy and vamping, right along with singing solos or backups. Brett Copeland gives a wanning perfor mance as the stage struck deliveiy boy who finally gets his chance to be on radio, and Sheldon Lee, another fine singer, wrill bring back memories as the soldier in uni form. home on leave. Bob Meloche as the singing master of ceremonies “Clifton A. Feddington” gives a fine performance as a man trying desper ately to hold the show together and deal with constant small on-stage crises and out-of-control egos. John Conway as stage manager “Lou Cohn". Chuck Mollenkopf as radio techni cian and Dennis Hooper as the shuffling “Pops Bailey" all are stars in their own right bringing low-key background drama and humor to the show. The band wdth Jim Dorr, Lu Mellin and Jerry Repper is just outstanding, and Donna Hooper is great, all dolled up as the aging piano player, “Fingers" Foley. Finally. Pat McCoy deserves a standing ovation for the costumes, which are just about too good to be true from wing tipped shoes to shoulder pads. Make your reservations now by calling 987-5354.
