In an average y;ar Georgia will have a yield per acre of 2,815 pounds and production of over 1.5 billion pounds of peanuts. •Agricultural statistics indicate that over 50,000 persons are directly employed in the production of peanuts. Thousands of Georgians are involved in shelling and processing peanuts, provid ing over $2 billion to the state's economy. •In 1998, more than 14,000 Georgia Farms produced peanuts for net farm receipts of over $402 million. • Over 95% of Gerogia's peanuts are the Runner type with less than 5% of both Virginia and Spanish types. •Peanuts are grown commercially in over 80 of Georgia's 159 counties with the average farm size of about 90 acres. •Over 30% of the peanuts shipped in exports come from Georgia.
