Two Perry men have been arrested and charged with attempted armed robbery following an incident at the Fuel South gas station along Macon Road. According to Perry Police Chief George Potter, Darius Howard. 18, and Brian Sparks, 17. have been charged with an attempted robbery of Fuel South. Potter said that “Our investigation shows the two young men are gang members", and that the crime, along with two other recent rob beries in Perry, was gang-related. The cashier, who apparently believed that the gun was a fake, chased the intruder out of the store and then called police. Responding to the call, officers stopped a vehicle driven by Howard, who was turning onto Swift Street just a short distance from the store. They reportedly found a pair of shoes, and some 32 caliber bullets in the car. Howard was arrested Subsequently the blue scarf, red bandanna and the loaded pistol were found near Perry Presbyterian Church. Investigation led to the arrest of Sparks at Perry High School on Nov. 2. Howard, who reportedly physical ly threatened one of the arresting officers, has been charged with attempted armed robbery. Potter said that “Sparks was try ing to get into a gang by committing a crime apparently trying to prove himself." He added that these arrests, along with arrests madd fol lowing a package store robbery dur ing the Georgia National Fair, and a money-snatching at a local Chinese restaurant, have put six gang mem bers in custody. Ind., Ms. Fox had lived in Periy since 1982. She was a restaurant and motel man ager, and had worked at Briggs & Stratton and at Longhorn Butcher Shop. She is survived by her son, S. Douglas Moore of Perry: her daughter, Doris M. Belflower of Elko: her stepchildren, Michael Fox of Tallahassee, Fla.; Jimmy L. Fox Jr. of Oceanside. Calif., and Jennifer S. Rodriquez of Lake Forest. Edith Marie C.-White Edith Marie Collins- White, 58, of Perry, died Oct. 31. 1999, at her home. Ser vices were held at Watson- Hunt Funeral Home Nov. 2, with Elder Franklin' Bryant and Elder Dan Bryant pre siding. Burial was in the Perry Memorial Gardens. Mrs. White was a retired bank note teller for First National Bank. She was a member of Beaver Creek Primitive Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband, Charles White of Perry, son Jeff White and daughter-in-law. Terri White, of Denver. Colo.; sis ters and brother. Royce Collins of Jonesboro, Car olyn Kitchens of Macon, Ouida Jones of Marshal lville, Lavona Middlebrooks of Perry, and Jane Ward of Fort Valley, as well as three grandchildren, Johnny, Heather and Ben White.
