County to extend
time for water bill
payment
Bt CHARLOTTE PERKINS
Homb Jomuial Staff
Houston County water
customers will soon have
more time to pay their
water bills.
The County Commis
sioners voted at their meet
ing Nov. 2 to extend the
payment time after the date
of the bill from 10 days to
15 days. On the 16th day
after the billing date, a cut
off notice will be mailed,
and a 10 percent penalty
will be added to the bill.
Service will be terminated
seven days after the cut off
notice is mailed out , rather
the current deadline of five
days.
This allows a total of 23
days from the date of
billing until water service
is cut off.
The changes, which will
be effective at the next
billing period, were recom
mended by Commissioner
Larry Thomson, who had
been asked to review the
water billing policy after
several complaints were
made by citizens.
The Commissioners also
voted unanimously to ask
the City of Perry “to review
the appropriateness of the
M-2 zoning classification"
curreniiy in effect in the
area where the new court
house and jail will be built.
According to Thomson,
the request, which follows
the recent controversy over
the proposed location of a
concrete plant in that area,
is being made in an effort
to encourage the most
compatible land use in the
area of the new courthouse
and jail.
Commissioner Tom
McMichael suggested C-1
or C-2 zoning would be a
good choice for the area.
In other business, the Com
missioners
