County to extend time for water bill payment Bt CHARLOTTE PERKINS Homb Jomuial Staff Houston County water customers will soon have more time to pay their water bills. The County Commis sioners voted at their meet ing Nov. 2 to extend the payment time after the date of the bill from 10 days to 15 days. On the 16th day after the billing date, a cut off notice will be mailed, and a 10 percent penalty will be added to the bill. Service will be terminated seven days after the cut off notice is mailed out , rather the current deadline of five days. This allows a total of 23 days from the date of billing until water service is cut off. The changes, which will be effective at the next billing period, were recom mended by Commissioner Larry Thomson, who had been asked to review the water billing policy after several complaints were made by citizens. The Commissioners also voted unanimously to ask the City of Perry “to review the appropriateness of the M-2 zoning classification" curreniiy in effect in the area where the new court house and jail will be built. According to Thomson, the request, which follows the recent controversy over the proposed location of a concrete plant in that area, is being made in an effort to encourage the most compatible land use in the area of the new courthouse and jail. Commissioner Tom McMichael suggested C-1 or C-2 zoning would be a good choice for the area. In other business, the Com missioners • Voted to approve a final revi sion of the County's House Bill 489 service delivery strategy, making minor changes in word ing to meet the approval of the Georgia Department of Commu nity Affairs. Commission Chair man Sherrill Stafford said the Warner Robins City Council had approved the changes at theii regular meeting on Nov. 1, and that Perry City Council and Cen terville City Council would be voting on the changes at their meetings on the evening of Nov. 2. • Appointed Wayne Yancey to a two-year term on the Perry Houston County Airport Authori ty- • Voted to sell a double-wide three-bedroom Guerdon mobile home, chain link fencing and a well pump at auction. The prop erty was purchased by the coun ty to develop the right of way along the new South Perry Park way. Commissioner McMichael said he had seen the home and that “It's in excellent shape." The home, located at 2319 Marshallville Road. may be inspected on Nov. 15 and 16 between 9 a.m. and 4 p.in. Bids are to be sealed and submitted to the County Purchasing Depart ment on Kings Chapel Road no later than 4 p.m.. Nov. 17. The buyer will be responsible for moving the home and the fencing from the property by Dec. 31. • Heard from Citizen Ed Rawls who asked for more county gov ernment attention to the south ern end of the County. Rawls said, "Poor people need their roads scraped. We have roads that are dangerous to ride. On some there hasn't been a whole lot done since plantation times." fl Ik 4r - •. 11|» mH St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church WELCOMES YOU To the Holy Eucharist 9:45 a.m. each Sunday 1207 Macon Road Perry 987-2190 save to s 10! m WRINKLE-FREE PANTS FOR MEN Choose from Bugle Boy®, Haggard) and Savane®.
