Wednesday evening will be a familiar sight as the 7th grade football team battles for the county champi onship at 5 p.m in Warner Robins at McConnell-Tal bert Stadium. But just because Panther fans have gotten used to their middle school teams being in the running, every year, doesn’t mean that their coaches have. *1 have been here four years and we have played in this game three times.” said Coach Leslie Belcher. "The challenges are different each year. Last year it was a defensive struggle, where we tried to maintain the ball. This year we expect it to be a offensive struggle since Tabor has two strong backs to contend with. We have had more injury trouble this year than we have had in the past." Perrv earned their way to the finals this year by knocking off the Feagin Mill Wolves 16-8 last week in the county championship semi finals. Clark coming off an important 20- 19 win over Mary Persons. Another big game in this region is Southeast at Mary Persons. Each team is 4-3 in region play, and the winner could take the fourth spot in the playoffs. Mary Persons still holds on to an outside shot at third place. Two wins to close the season, and two Lamar County losses would give the Bulldogs third place. Though it has no playoff implications, the Nov 5 meeting between Perry and Macon County will have a little significance. After a rivalry of just two seasons, the teams will be playing in separate regions next year. Macon County won last year to claim a playoff spot while denying one to Perry. The seventh grade Pan thers scored two quick touchdowns and then relied on their strong defense to hold the Wolves the rest of the game. To start the first half. Perry took a Feagin Mill punt at the 29-yard line and Brandon Davis picked up 41 yards as he ran up the sidelines before finally being pulled down. Perry failed to convert the series but the momentum pumped up their defense which backed up Feagin Mill 13 yards right off the bat. The Wolves were again forced to punt, this time the ball bounced to their own 49 yard line. It took the Panthers only one play to score, on a Ray Page pass to Markese Howard who ran down the field to the end zone for the touchdown. Ricky Harris' run picked up two on the point after touchdown play. Feagin Mill, which added their y points with two minut eft in the third on a punt return, threatened seriously only one more time in the game. Late in the game. Perry failed to pick up the first down and had to turn the ball over to the Wolves on downs. The Feagin Mill pass attempt was broken up by Sidney Swan. "He is one of the smallest kids on the team, but he will hit you hard, "said Belcher. "Our defense played strong all day, “ said Belch er. “Christopher Al-Amin, Brandon Alford and Markese Howard played in the backfield most of the day and did a great job for us. They shot through and cre ated havoc." Travanti Harrell had three tackles while Markese Howard and Brandon Alford both had two. “We did good overall.“ said Coach James Lattimore commenting on the offense after the game. “If we could have taken control of the game in the beginning, our score would have been much higher."
