PAGE 14 Thanksgiving Blessings & Cookbook, November 1999 From the heart Dear Editor, I would like to take a moment and be thankful. I'm not writing this to complain about life or the economy. 1 believe there's too much complaining in the present day and too little sincere gratitude. I appreciate my health and the family that God has bestowed upon me. I live in a wonderful community with many generous people. By generous, I don’t mean in a monetary sense, but in a giving one. I have worked as a nurse in this community for 18 years. 1 have seen this community pull together in individual disasters as well as the public ones. I thank the community for pro viding a hospital to work in all these years. I hope it continues to exist especially for those who depend on our hospital for health care. They are the ones who will suffer for its loss. As my father has always told me, 1 don’t have to go to work, but 1 get the privilege to work. On another note, I believe my father, Luther Musselwhite, has also been an asset to the educa tional welfare of this community. —y bran n en MOTOR COMPANY SERVING THE MIDDLE GEORGIA AREA MORE THAN 56 YEARS! He has worked countless hours beyond what was required of him. He has instilled in my family a wonderful work ethic. He has been an example for those who choose to work only within the bounds of their job description. He has taken on tasks that he did not ask for nor was assigned, but chose to do. I would like to thank my Dad for being such an unwavering influence in my education as well as that of many others. The way in which his 35 years of tenure was easily cast aside by the present leaders of our educa tional system saddens me. It mys tifies me as to why you would lay off someone who's paid for only four hours of work time, but who actually works up to 12-16 hours a day. This will unfortunately be Dooly County School System’s loss, but my family’s gain. Thanks, Dad for all your years of effort. Sincerely, Winnie Davis Dear Readers, Over the years, I have heard a lot of things about April 15. That day has been designated in this country as “tax day." Those of us who experi enced this past April 15 in Vienna know what a blessing it was. JGp I’m so thankful that the Lord, through his mercy, gave all of us another chance. Our apartments, homes, trees, power lines and the|fflr roads were in a shambles xSP after the tornado. I’m so fH thankful, however, that the Lord saw fit to tear down the material things and not take a soul. Lois Anderson Vienna, GA Thank Yon I am so glad to have the oppor tunity to say how thankful I am to live in small town America, more especially Byromville, Dooly Coun ty, Georgia. All my life, I have felt that I could turn to family and friends in Byromville when I needed help. On several occasions I have had to do just that, and they always came through for me. The most recent hero in my life is a very busy young man who also grew un and works in Byromville, Mr. Steven Lamberth. Two weeks ago, our beloved family dog of 14 years. Dusty became so crippled with arthritis that he was unable to get up by himself. For two weeks my husband and I took turns helping him up and giving the medication our veteri narian hoped would enable him to become mobile again. However, after two weeks with no improvement, upon the advice of our veterinarian. Dr. Felix Smith, another hero, we made the terribly difficult decision to put Dusty to sleep. We then brought him home to bury him. Dusty was a big dog and digging his grave posed a real problem. 1 thought about Steven and his backhoe and George called him. Steven said he would be over the next morning and he was. He not only dug Dusty’s grave, but helped me bury him and then would not let me pay him. I am so glad to have the chance to express my appreciation pub licly and thank Steven again for coming to the rescue. Peggy Maaacv Byromville, GA “An old lady said she Just had two teeth and she thanked God 1; that they met T Dear Lord, At this wonderful season You have given us. I deeply, sincerely thank you for the specialness of Thanksgiving. Among the blessings I enjoy. Lord. You have interwoven variety! Even a young child is aware of the changing seasons . . . trees and bushes tipped with gold, the blue hazes of November morns, whistling winds in March, croon ing breezes in early summer. The unfolding of the year brings a richness in our lives, a gift to be cherished and used each day. Heavenly Father, I praise Thee for the variety of friends 1 count mine: The retired school teacher, now unable to walk without help: The young married grand daughter who appreciates my culinary arts and homespun advice; The Spanish speaking teenager with the lovely hair and beautiful eyes; People who invite us to their luscious turnip green patch; The church prayer group on Wednesday mornings; The talented choir’s Call to Wor ship; My husband who likes to hear me pray! And dear Lord, there's variety, too, between the covers of my Study Bible: ABRAHAM, with enough faith to offer his only son for a sacrifice . .. NOAH’s tenacity in following the Lord’s directions . . . RUTH, wife of Boaz, an ancestor of Jesus and author of “Entreat me not to leave thee:" PAUL’S determination to take the WORD to the known*world. The Biblical examples are end less. In Your wisdom and love for mankind, variety in all things is provided for folks like me. What a special blessing! In Jesus’ name, Sarah Page
