Obituaries Page 2 Wed., Jan. S. 2000, Houston Home Journal Robert Bowen Robert Howard Bowen, 74. died Dec. 29. 1999. Services were held Dec. 31 at the Ronnie L. Stewart and Son Funeral Chapel in Vidalia. Burial was in Old Mount Zion Cemetery. A native of Toombs Coun ty. Mr. Bowen had lived most of his life in Eastman, and lived in Perry for the past four years. He was retired from the Georgia Department of Transporta tion. and was a Baptist. Survivors include his chil dren, Robert Carl Bowen, Carlene Pierce and Jeanelle Land, all of Perry; brothers, David Bowen and Ben Bowen, both of Lyons, and Winston Bowen of Yulee, Fla.: six grandchildren. Rob bie Bowen, Kevin Pierce. Brittany Peck. Bridget Mor ris. Toby Dykes, Keith Howard and Carl Vance, and six great-grandchildren. R.J. 'Jimmy Doss Jr. R.J. “Jimmy" Doss Jr., 55. of 315 Ga. 26 E. Twin Oaks Park #37, Elko, died Dec. 30, 1999 at the Medical Center of Central Georgia in Macon. Graveside services with full military honors were held Dec. 31, in the Perry Memorial Gardens. Born in Little Rock. Ark., Mr. Doss had lived here for 15 years, moving from St. Louis, Mo. He was an Army Vietnam veteran, and a recipient of the Bronze Star. He was an assistant man ager of B.C. Moore's Depart ment Store, a former employee of Kellwood, and a former night clerk at the New Perry Hotel. He was a Baptist. He is survived by his chil dren, Amy Dix of Klondike. Julia Hardesty and Jeff Doss of Little Rock. Melanie City and Festival Activities - Phyllis Bynum-Grace. Watson-Hunt Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Cynthia Myers Cynthia Gilman Myers, 39, died Jan. 1, 2000. Ser vices were held at 11 a.m., Jan. 4, in Mathis Funeral Home, Cochran. Burial was private. Mrs. Myers was a busi ness partner in Myers Con struction and Grant and Myers Feed and Seed. She operated Helping Hands Animal Shelter and was a former nurse. Survivors include her husband, Marty Myers; chil dren, Laura Jones of Gainesville and Josh Jones of Gresston; mother, Jane Gilman of Cochran; father and stepmother. Fleming and Betty Gilman of Cochran; sisters and broth er, Kathy Smith of Warner Robins, Donnie Gilman and Sheila Peacock, both of Cochran; grandmother, Louise Sparks of Cochran, and a grandchild. Jean Rackley Ozbim Jean Rackley Ozbirn, 69, of 106 Thornhill Road. Fort Walton Beach. Fla., died Dec. 28, 1999, at the Peach County Hospital in Fort Val ley. Services were held at Wat son-Hunt Chapel Dec. 31, with Dr. Gene Bowman offi ciating. Burial was in the Perry Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Ozbirn was a native of Kathleen and had lived at and Visitors Bureau - Jim Worrall and Lee Gilmour. In other council business members Bobby Glover, James Moore and Charles Lewis were sworn into office. All three ran without opposition in recent city elections. Watson-Hunt Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Porter Farrell Shipes Porter Farrell Shipes, 74, of 111 Henson Road Hayneville, died Dec. 27, 1999 at the Perry Hospital. Services were held at the First Baptist Church of Hayneville Dec. 29, with the Rev. Olin Hamlin and the Rev. Gene McKinney offici ating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Born in Dodge County. Mr. Shipes lived in Houston County most of his life. He was a retired repairman from Medusa Cement, and a member of the First Baptist Church of Hayneville. He is survived by his wife Nell Hamsley Shipes of Hayneville; his son and daughters. Ray Shipes of Perry, Peggy Moore of Albany, Shirley Stone and Barbara Craft of Hayneville; his sisters, Geneva McDon ald of Macon and Lowell Bembry of Centerville; his brothers. Charles Shipes of Hayneville and Franklin Shipes of Logansville; eight grandchildren and 1 1 great grandchildren.
