Program of Work
economic and small business growth.
Projects: This committee plans,
participates and finances the follow
ing events:
Business Retention & Expansion
Program Conduct this existing
industry survey every three years. The
last survey was done in the Summer of
1999, and we distributed the results in
October 1999. The Georgia
Department of Community Affairs tab
ulates results and we distribute them
to entities that are directly involved in
economic development.
Red Carpet Tour - The Georgia
Chamber of Commerce sponsors this
program. Every three years our mid
dle Georgia region is host to this tour
for industrial prospects and state
developers. We held the last tour April
1997. The goal is to showcase our
region and close the deal on locations
within our region. The tour leverages
the Masters' Golf Tournament to bring
prospects that are actively looking at
Georgia.
Developer Tours/Dinners - The
Houston County Development
Authority holds four these each year.
State developers tour our existing
industry and infrastructure. The goal is
to remind them of what we have to
offer. We call upon this committee to
help with tours and/or attend the din
ners. Also, help HCDA coordinate vis
its to Atlanta to meet with state devel
opers.
Prospect Visits - HCDA may call
upon this committee to represent the
community during a prospect visit.
Established Industry Appreciation
Day - The Perry Area and Warner
Robins Area Chambers of Commerce
and the Houston County Development
Authority co-host EIAD Manufacturers
and major industries within the County
enjoy a lunch, golf tournament, and
dinner as they network with local lead
ers.
Import/Export Education
Research needs for import/export
assistance for industries. Support is
available from the Georgia Export
Assistance Center and the Georgia
Department of Industry, Trade &
Tourism.
Local Spending Projects - Continue
developing projects to boost local
spending.
Commercial Development - Assist
the Houston County Development

Golden Isles Parkway - Continue
membership in Golden Isles Parkway
Association.
EDUCATION COMMITTEE
Chairperson: Mike Baker, All-In-
One Computers
Purpose: Promote/enhance quality
of Perry/Houston County education
and educational opportunities.
Projects: This committee plans,
implements or assists with the follow
ing:
Middle Georgia Technical Institute
GOAL Program - (Governor’s
Occupational Award for Leadership)
The committee provides a judge to
MGT to select the area winner, who
advances to state competition. The
committee also helps sponsor the pro
gram financially.
STAR Student/Teacher - We
cosponsor the local level of this state
program with the Warner Robins
Chamber of Commerce. The
Chambers present each STAR student
and teacher with a SSOO savings
bond. An additional SSOO savings
bond is given to the System STAR stu
dent and teacher, for a total of SIOOO
to the system winners The Chambers
coordinate and sponsor the awards
reception. (Perry has odd years;
Warner Robins has even years)
Career Development Program-
Started in 1999, the Education
Committee has established Career
Development Programs at Perry
Middle School, Perry High School and
Westfield. This program allows local
business leaders to speak to students
about career opportunities in Perry
and Houston County. They also speak
to students about life skills such as
Customer Service, Employability and
Persona! Finance.
Education Appreciation Cookouts -
We hold this event annually to show
support and appreciation to the
Houston County Board of Education,
Perry School Principals, Westfield
Directors/ Headmaster/ Principals,
Middle Georgia Technical Institute,
Macon State College and Ft. Valley
State University. These leaders will
also receive an orientation on the vari
ous education projects of the chamber
of commerce.

M.H. Cheek Scholarship - The com
mittee administers scholarship, which
began with a contribution by Mr. Earl
Cheek. The monetary scholarship is
given annually to a Perry Middle
School English student selected by
the school.
Students of the Month - This com
mittee is responsible for contacting
Perry High School and Westfield for
their students of the month. We invite
the students, principals, and parents
to attend our Good Morning Perry
Breakfasts, where the Education
Chairperson introduces the students
and presents a certificate.
Georgia Scholar Reception We
sponsor this event with the Warner
Robins Chamber of Commerce This is
a state program, and our event recog
nizes local Georgia Scholars. (Perry
has even years; Warner Robins odd
years)
Miscellaneous Public Relations -
(1 increase coverage of academic
accomplishments in media, specifi
cally a featured column; (2)lncrease
involvement of school personnel in
chamber events and vice versa,(3)
publicize new middle school project
New Teacher Luncheons- Sponsor
new teacher luncheons for Houston
County and Westfield.
Teacher of the Year Awards - We
sponsor "Teacher of the Year” awards
for the runner-ups and winner with the
Warner Robins Chamber of
Commerce.
Sponsorship - Raise S4OOO in cor
porate sponsorships to help fund edu
cation programs performed by the
Perry Area Chamber of Commerce
Education Committee.
MILITARY AFFAIRS
Chairperson: Paul Hickst Northrop
Grumman
Purpose: Provide support to Warner
Robins Air Force Base to keep it viable
as the economic engine that drives
middle Georgia
Projects: The Middle Georgia
Military Affairs Committee determines
this committee's projects. MGMAC
consists of middle Georgia counties
affected by the base. Local projects
focus mainly on appreciation events
Committee Member Recruitment -
The Middle Georgia Military Affairs
Committee, under the direction of the
Warner Robins Air Force Base Public
Affairs Office, assigns the Perry
Military Affairs Committee member
ship slots We currently have 30 slots.
One slot was added in 1997.
Additional slots may be added with
approval of the WRAFB/PA The num
ber of slots also determines our pro
rata share of expenses incurred by the
Middle Georgia Committee
Museum of Aviation Pledge -
Members of the Perry Military Affairs
Committee must commit to the
Heritage of Eagles Campaign at the
Museum of Aviation. Each member
donates SIOOO, payable in S2OO
installments over a five year period.
Besides these contributions to the
Museum of Aviation, the Perry Military
Affairs Committee annually donates
SIOOO to the Museum.
Middle Georgia Military Affairs
Committee -MGMAC consists of the
counties in the middle Georgia area
that Warner Robins Air Force Base
impacts, and which are committed to
keeping it as the economic engine
that drives our area. The Perry Area
Chamber of Commerce’s Chairman of
the Board, President/CEO, and
Military Affairs Chairperson serve on
the executive board of this committee.
The committee meets once per quar
ter to discuss issues affecting the
base and provide community support
for base functions. The committee
gives the base an outlet to keep com
munity informed. Gary Bishop of CB
& T Bank will serve as Chairman of the
MGMAC in 2000
Military Ball -We require members
of the Perry Military Affairs Committee
to purchase tickets to this event that
MGMAC holds annually to raise funds
for the Museum of Aviation.
Georgia Invitational Golf
Tournament - This annual event is an
annual fund raiser for the Museum of
Aviation. It has raised more than $1
million for this key tourism and educa
tional tool Brigadier General Robert
Scott (Ret) and former U S. Senator
Sam Nunn are honorary chairpersons
for the event, which draws partici
pants from major corporations and
dignitaries in Georgia and the Nation.
Fall Social- This is our local appre
ciation event for the Warner Robins
AFB/ALC Commanding General and
his senior staff.
