Police search for
tractor thieves
Local authorities are search
ing for whoever stole tractors
from two different locations in
Perry last week.
According to Perry Police De
partment Lt. Heath Dykes, a
Ford tractor valued at approxi
mately $12,000 was reported
taken from a lot near the inter
section of Hill and Tucker Roads
April 19.
That same day, another Ford
tractor, with a bush hog attach
ment, was reported taken from
Walker-Rhodes Tractor Co. on
Main St.
That piece of equipment was
valued at approximately $15,000.

Perry Volunteer Outreach, which
is organizing to serve as a deal

Two more incumbents have
tossed their hats into the ring
and will seek new terms on the
Houston County Board of Com
missioners.
Commissioners H. Jay Walker
and Tom McMichael both an
nounced their plans to seek their
parties’ nominations in the July
primary.
McMichael, a Republican will
seek a second term.
Walker, a Democrat, will seek
his fifth term. He has also served
in the Georgia General Assem
bly.
Earlier, Commissioner Gail
Robinson announced her inten
tion to run for re-election.

Club will be held Saturday, April
19, from 8 a.m. until noon, at the
old Family Dollar store, across
from Stanley Furniture.
There will be a wide variety of
bargains in clothing, toys and
household items, as well as
homemade baked goods.
Proceeds go to local charities
and community services.

Arrests made in Perry
burglary incident
Two men were arrested and
charged with burglary following a
foot chase by Perry officers April
19.
Officer Jeff Rosner spotted the
pair walking in the area of
Whipple Street, said Lt. Heath
Dykes of the Perry Police Depart
ment.
When Rosner stopped to speak
to the two, they fled on foot, he
said. They were later apprehended
near the Kmart area, according to
reports.
Trey Green, 17, of 1109 Gaines
Drive, Lot 6, and Charles Gray, 21,
of Alabama, face several charges,
including the burglary of a resi
dence at 606 Wisdom Street and
obstruction of an officer.

USDA surplus commodity food
will be distribute by the Middle
Georgia Community Action
Agency’s Perry Neighborhood Ser
vice Center on May 10, 11, and 12
from 8:30 a.m. until 4 p. m. and
on May 15 from 7:30 a.m. until
3:30 p.m. at the Perry National
Guard Armory.
One bag of food per household
will be provided. Each bag con
tains 11 items.
Eligibility is based on household
size and total income. The house
hold must be in Houston County,
and anyone picking up food for
anyone else must present an au

tower moratorium
The Perry Planning Commis
sion is asking city council to con
sider a request to place a morato
rium on permits for cell/commu
nications towers until a study can
be made.
During am April 24 meeting at
city hall, the group discussedthe
need for a review of rules govern
ing installation of such towers.
Currently, requests for the tow
ers are handled the same as other
public utlities, said Building Of
ficial Steve Howard. Tbwers may
be placed in a C-2 (commercial)
district.
“I don’t feel our present ordi
nance is adequate,” said Howard.
He cited a case presently pend
ing in another location dealing
with communications towers in
which the Federal Communica
tions Commission “may get be
hind and overthrow a local zon
ing ordinance.”

ways to build on the vibrancy of
downtown Perry and keep it eco
nomically sound.
“I know you will put 110 per
cent into what it takes to revital
ize downtown,” city council mem
ber James Moore said to the Au
thority during the meeting.
The Authority is appointed by
mayor and council.
Chamber committee
discusses downtown
The Perry Chamber of Com
merce Business Development
Committee met last week.
During the session, members
heard from Jerry Wilson of the
Advanced Technology Center in
Warner Robins.
Wilson spoke of various ways
Perry could utilize new ideas and
services to help increase the num
ber of people visiting the down
town area.
He cited the Technology Center
as one way to help new businesses
get started.
New businesses that qualify
can be housed in Technology Cen
ter offices until they are ready to
expand to larger facilities, said
Wilson.
