“ It was very...speedy, It was
very tiring...we did our press
defense for the first time,” said
Burger.
Westfield’s record improves to
4-1 while Windsor picks up
another loss with a record of 4-
5.
One point of interest is the
fact that Windsor went to the
free throw line 16 times to
Westfield’s four. It’s possible
that the smaller bodies of the
Lady Knights draw fouls more
easily than the taller Lady
Hornets.

to do our job and not be as

Westfield drew first blood just
moments into the first quarter
as Corrie WoJohn scored her
first two points of the night.
Burger owned the court from
there on out, scoring 10 points
in the first quarter alone. At
the end of the first quarter the
score stood at 21-10.
In the second quarter, Becca

for Windsor. At 2:48 the score
was 30-15, while Lauren
Phillips scored eight of
Windsor’s points. Late in the
second quarter, Coach
Champion began to use some of
her team’s depth as they held a
commanding lead. The half
ended with Corrie WoJohn
making a field goal that was
just a moment too late to beat
the buzzer and a score of 36-21.
The third quarter saw Burger
tack on eight more points while
Windsor struggled to keep their
heads above water. Windsor’s
Whitney White scored all 11 of
her points in the second and
third quarter. Despite White’s
efforts, Westfield would again
outscore the Lady Knights 21-
15.
The Lady Knights, however,
dominated the fourth quarter,
as only two Lady Hornets,
WoJohn and Burger would
score. The Lady Knights
outscored the Lady Hornets
with a dominating 7-4 run.
With 1:48 left to play in the
game, Kala Morrison collided
with Thompson. Morrison’s
knee, which has had trouble
before, slapped the floor bring
ing about the end of her night.
Morrison did, however, score
ten points before her removal.
“She’s had injuries in the
past,” said Windsor Coach Pete
Ranson. “I think it’s just shock
from past injuries but I think
she’s going to be fine.”

only difference between
Blalock and Mannion during the
night was that Blalock had a
large supporting cast while
Mannion could rely only on him
self.
“For the most part we’re still
young...l’m their fourth coach in
four years,” said Windsor head
coach Barry Nichols. “They
graduated six or seven players
off of last year’s team.”
While Windsor scored first off
a three point shot by Mannion,
Westfield ultimately had the last
laugh.
After Mannion’s three pointer,
Westfield scored eight consecu
tive points and never looked
back.
Blalock would pick up six
points in the first quarter as the
scoring ended at 12-7.
The Hornets began the second
quarter with yet another eight
point run, six of which came
from Blalock. The Hornets fin
ished the second quarter by
outscoring the Knights 15-7 and
with a halftime score of 27-14.
Blalock ended the half with 14
points while John Harris had the
second highest number with
seven.
The third quarter saw
Westfield dance on top of
Windsor some more as they had
two large runs. The first and
largest run started with three
minutes left in the quarter
resulting in nine points, eight

onds left in the half, the Hornets
opened a six-point, run to
outscore the Knights 23-11.
Mannion finished the third
quarter with eight points.
Mannion had another eight
point quarter in the fourth. The
senior became desperate as
Windsor’s deficit soared to more
than 20 points.
Even as Westfield’s entire
bench began seeing playing time,
the gap between the scores con
tinued to stretch further.
Halfway through the fourth
quarter, the ever-growing frus
tration within Mannion explod
ed as he watched Blalock take an
uncontested three point shot.
Wondering why Blalock was not
covered, Mannion screamed at
his teammates “He’s the best
player on the court!!!”
“I wouldn’t say that I was the
best player on the court...l think
he was just mad and frustrated,”
said Blalock.
“He’s a great player, we’ve
played together for a while...l
look up to him.”
The damage had been done
and not even Mannion’s 16 point
half could not save his team as
they were again outscored 23-18
to end the game with the final
score.
