A Light For Your Path
We have the benefit of
knowing the day is approach
ing. It’s noted on every calen
dar in, our country. December
25th. Christmas Day. But it
certainly hasn’t always come
with such predictability.
Around 700 B.C. God raised
up a prophet from Judah
named Isaiah. Part of Isaiah’s
message spoke of a son who
would be born and a child who
would be given. A child who
would carry the government
on his shoulders. A child who
would be called Wonderful
Counsellor, Prince of Peace,
Mighty God, and Everlasting
Father. A child who would
reign on David’s throne and
over his kingdom. God’s
Messiah.
Following Isaiah, God con
tinued to speak through other
prophets like Nahum, Micah,
Habakkuk, Zephaniah, and
Malachi. But suddenly, heav
en became silent. No new
prophets appeared. 400 years
would pass before God broke
the silence through the cries
of a newborn baby. God had
not forgotten His promise.
For those who had heard
and passed down the words of
the prophet Malachi, the place
God chose to fulfill his prom
ise would have been no great
surprise. “But you, 0
Bethlehem of Ephrathah, who
are one of the little clans of
Judah, from you shall come
forth for me one who is to rule
<in Israel, whose origin is from
of old, from ancient days.”
• For most of the world,
though, it was indeed a sur
prise. When the fullness of
time came it wasn’t on the cal
endar and God didn’t bother
to send out a universal
announcement. Instead, for
the most important birth in
history, God sent His heavenly
host to a small group of shep
herds in a field. And the mes
sage that fell on their ears is
the same good news of great
joy that is still proclaimed
today—’’For unto you is born
this day in the city of David a
Savior, who is Christ the
Lord.”
Yes, this baby in Bethlehem
was the very one the prophet
Isaiah had spoken of. The
promised son. The given
child. And they called him
Jesus. God’s Messiah had
come to earth.
And through Jesus, God
gave a new message for
mankind. A message that
offered sight for the blind and
freedom for the captives. A
message that spoke of hope
and forgiveness. A message
that demanded sacrifice and
commitment. A message
grounded in a love that would
lay down its life for a friend.
But, God didn’t raise up a
prophet to proclaim this mes
sage for the time of the
prophets was now over. God
was now bringing a new
covenant to mankind. And
the news was so good that God
just had to deliver the mes
sage Himself.

Music Critique - Selah
This year for Christmas the
trio Selah has once again com
bined talents to create a pleas

release “Rose of Bethlehem”.
Known for their amazing
vocal harmonies the group cer

arrangements of traditional
songs such as” Silent Night,””o
Come, O Come,
Emmanuel,’’and “O Holy
Night,” to brand new songs
written by group members such
as “Mystery,” beautiful, warm

thing it’s more reminiscent of
music from the Disney
movie“ The Lion King” featur
ing African drums and sung in
the language of Kituba.
Ifyou’re more a fan of pop
music you might want to check
out the song bybandmember
Nicol Smith called “Joy.”
Probably one of the best new
Christmas songs of this year
can also be foundon this album
in the previously mentioned
“Mystery.” This is abeautifully
arranged song with fabulous
vocal harmonies which speak of
the “Mystery” of why God
chose to become a man and die
just for us. This song gives
newmeaning to the term
“heart-warming. ”
Whether you love vocal har
monies, like pop music, or just
enjoy some good Christmas
music this would be an album
worth a little time checking out.
You won’t be disappointed.
