ought to give massages for a liv
ing.”
Jackson chose to become a
Certified Massage Therapist,

Jackson, .who now has three

her full-time career dividing her

What’s the massage experi
ence like?
For starters, Jackson says that
(Tbr Hnustnn jinme journal
she always respects the modesty
of those who come to her for a
therapeutic massage.
“You’re always under a sheet,”
she explains, “and when I do the
massage, I only uncover the area
I’m working on.”
She wants her patients to be
relaxed and comfortable.
“If you don’t like the music
I’m playing, I’ll change it,” she
says, “and if you’re uncomfort
able or cold all you have to do is
speak up.”
What can a massage accom
plish?
Jackson says that massage can
be especially helpful for people
suffering from chronic pain, as
wilth arthritis or fibromyalgia.
“Sometimes people have been
dealing with pain so long,
that it’s almost as if the body
is chronically tense,” she
explains, “and getting a mas
sage can help those people
relax, and have less pain,
anxiety and stress. It’s a type
of pain management.”
Jackson has learned sever
al different kinds of massage
techniques, and says that it
is a lifetime learning process
for the massage therapists.
“There are at least 150 dif
ferent types of body work,”
she says. “The one most peo
ple are familiar with is the
Swedish system that helps
you relax or energize.”
She also is trained in neu
romuscular techniques
which are often used for
“repair work” or to help a
person heal from an injury to
the shoulder, hip or knee
or even from carpal tunnel
syndrome.
Or, of course, a massage
can simply be an experience
in total relaxation.
Jackson is at her Perry
offices from 9 a.m . until 5
p..m., on Mondays, Tuesdays
and Wednesdays.
